SMI, the German importers of Xray cars, has announced on their site the 11 strong team that will contest the German Nationals driving the Slovakian manufacturers new 200mm chassis, the NT1. For the southern region they have Alexander Stocker, Thomas Günsel, Michael Heinrich and Robert Pietsch, the latter if you recall is the designer of the Shepherd Velox 07. Mike Wiseman has proven himself the man to beat in the first round of the South African Nationals held last weekend at the East London track. In the 200mm class Mike TQ’d the event with his Serpent 720 and then went on to win the final by 4 laps and then managed to repeat the feat in 1/8th scale, with his Serpent 960, TQ’ing and winning the final by 5 seconds. In Xrays efforts to create a super star team they have acquired the services of Danish racer Martin Christensen. European champion in the now almost dead 235mm class, Martin has also won multiple Danish national titles as well the Nordic Championships on 2 occasions and is definitely a quick racer. When I arrived at the track and testing area, I was met with a familiarly noise – nitro engines! There was an indoor track with enough space to hold big indoor nitro races.
