Coelho opens EOS title defence with win

Coelho opens EOS title defence with win

Bruno Coelho has opened the defence of his Euro Offroad Series 4WD title with a win, the Xray driver claiming the overall victory at the opening round of the championship at the Nurburgring in Germany.  The win marks the World Champions fourth consecutive EOS victory and his second at the iconic motor racing circuit, his title having been claimed here back in April at last season’s finale.  Like in A1 Coelho would win A2 after an almost identical mistake from Top Qualifier Lee Martin who once again rolled coming off the Team Associated Step-up Step-down, a feature the reigning 2WD champion took an immediate dislike when seeing it for the first time when he arrived at the track on Thursday night.  Managing to maintain his No.1 starting position throughout A3 that would secure last year’s race winner 2nd overall with Michal Orlowski completing the podium.

HB Racing D815-series hard A-arms sets

Coming from HB Racing are hard front and rear A-arms sets for the D815 series off-road and on-road vehicles. Standard on the RGT8 1/8th nitro GT car the arms are also usable on the D815, D812 and the forthcoming E817 buggy as the harder material used improves handling on high-traction surfaces while also reducing the vehicle’s sensitivity to variations in traction. The front and rear arms are available separately, they include composite arm inserts and mounting hardware.

Naoto Matsukura crowned JMRCA Nitro Buggy Champ

Naoto Matsukura crowned JMRCA Nitro Buggy Champ

The Futaba Buggy Track in the Japanese Chiba prefecture played host to last weekend’s JMRCA 1/8th Nitro Off-road National Championships. It was a mixed weekend in terms of weather with the final day holding occasional rain but the 1-hour main final would be held on a maintained track and in dry conditions. Multiple electric class World Champion, Naoto Matsukura (Kyosho/O.S.) excelled even at the wheel of a gas-powered vehicle and took the TQ honours. In the final he jumped into the lead instantly and never looked back to take the title in a very controlled manner. At the end he grabbed the national title one lap ahead of multiple national champion, Kazuya Tanaka (Kyosho/Reds Racing) while up and coming Yusuke Sugiura (Kyosho/O.S.), a rival Naoto’s in EP racing and in his maiden GP buggy racing year, completed the podium result in third.

Coelho takes easy A1 win after Martin error

Coelho takes easy A1 win after Martin error

In what was expected to be a fraught first A-Main of 4WD, it was to be Bruno Coelho who took an easy win of what overall was an uneventful race. Starting from second on the grid, the reigning champion went to the front when Top Qualifier Lee Martin rolled coming off the Team Associated Step-up Step-Down and once in the front the Xray driver pulled away to win by over 4-seconds. Martin would recover to second having dropped behind his Yokomo team-mate after his error. Having got by Orlowski at the start the pair making contact and Orlowski coming off worse, Rheinard get caught and passed by the Schumacher driver but on the last lap he would make ‘another stupid mistake I guess’ letting Rheinard back through to complete the Top 3.

Martin takes opening 4WD qualifier

Martin takes opening 4WD qualifier

After a long day of 2WD race action, drivers at the EOS season opener made the quick switch to 4WD to end day 2 of the event with the first round of qualifying and it was to be Lee Martin who would top the times sheets.  The Yokomo driver would set the pace in Q1 by almost 1.6-seconds from a trio of Xray’s lead by Hupo Honigl.  Having topped yesterday’s seeding practice reigning champion Bruno Coelho wouldn’t complete the error filled round, the World Champion saying afterwards it had been ‘a bad day’ with him struggling to have any feeling in his own driving.  After a restless sleep last night, the Xray driver hopes a good sleep tonight will make for a better performance tomorrow.  Fresh from his 2WD win, Marc Rheinard would not have a good start to 4WD as he broke an idler gear at 3-minutes.

Rheinard opens EOS season with 2WD win

Rheinard opens EOS season with 2WD win

Marc Rheinard has opened the new season of the Euro Offroad Series with 2WD victory at the Nurburgring.  The Yokomo driver claimed his second ever EOS win when he dramatically held on to the lead of A2 from Michal Orlowski making it a perfect weekend as having TQ’d the event he kicks off the season with maximum championship points.  The win marks the third season in succession that Yokomo have won the season opener as they chase a fourth consecutive manufacturers title.  Completing the podium for the first event on the championship’s expanded 5-round championship, Orlowski would take second after taking the A3 win with reigning champion Lee Martin opening his title defence with 3rd.

Rheinard wins exciting A1

Rheinard wins exciting A1

Marc Rheinard has won an exciting first A-Main at the EOS season opener despite twice handing the race lead to his rivals.  Starting from the TQ, the Yokomo driver would first hand the lead to Martin Wollanka on only the third lap but take it back again on lap 6 when the Xray driver had a bad landing off the step-up step-down.  Chasing his second ever EOS victory, Rheinard would only maintain his second lead for little over a lap jumping short on the table top and landing facing the wrong way as his team-mate Lee Martin went through to the front.  In a race in which one would think no drivers wanted to win the first race of the season Martin would then traction roll handing Rheinard back the lead which he finally decided he wanted to keep.  While this was entertaining for the motorsport crowd, Martin was to save the best until last with an epic pass on Wollanka on the final lap to make it a Yokomo 1-2.

Rheinard takes Q2 & 3 at EOS

sat_marc-770x462

Marc Rheinard is on target for the TQ after taking both the second & third rounds of qualifying at the Euro Offroad Series season opener.  Having kicked off 2WD qualifying this morning at the Nurburgring with a P3 following a mistake on his opening lap, the Yokomo driver would set the pace in the next two to top team-mate Lee Martin on both occasions.  Behind them, in the second qualifier Joona Haatanen would complete the Top 3 while in the third round Q1 pace setter Martin Wollanka would make up for a poor Q2 to put his Xray back at the sharp end of the timing sheets.
