Roland Strom wins Swedish 1/8 gas onroad champs

This past weekend MHF-u Skarpnäck organised the Swedish championship at their newly repaved Flatenbanan in Stockholm. The event saw racing in 1/10 Nitro touring, electric touring and 1/8 gas Track. An unusually sunny and warm weekend made for great atmosphere and really good track conditions for everyone participating. The new asphalt gave good traction and the builders had succeeded with a silky-smooth track with no bumps whatsoever – and it was also very nice to look at. In the 1/8 Track class it was Mattias Ericsson who got the TQ with his Mugen. It was obvious that fuel consumption was very tight over the five minute qualifiers with some participants being forced to refuel at around the four minute mark. Roland Strom, Running a Serpent/Max combo, was among the few to manage the whole five minutes on a single tank of fuel which gave him the third starting position in the A-main behind Mattias Ericsson and Marcus Lindner.

Greiner wins the 2015 German 1/10th Nationals

Greiner wins the 2015 German 1/10th Nationals

The German Nationals for 1/10th scale were held this past weekend in Leipzig in the eastern part of Germany. Qualifying would see Robert Pietsch on TQ for Mugen with Serpent driver Dominic Greiner a very close 2nd and his Serpent Team mate Toni Gruber in 3rd. In the semi-final Greiner came out on top with 101 laps, with Patrick Nahr and Pietsch with 100 laps in 2nd and 3rd so Greiner would start the Main final from pole position. Most of the final saw a great fight for 1st position between Greiner and Pietsch, a real cliff-hanger. Greiner’s Natrix 748 TQ worked really well and he was was on a different fuel-strategy as his Max showed better mileage, and he was also on a different tyre change strategy. So in this race his pit-crew of Thomas Guensel and Michael Salven were of huge importance. In the last part of the final Greiner had a small lead, but due to the very high temperatures, the chassis and engine became very hot, and being on very small tyres at the end of the race the clutch started sticking a little, losing some speed. At the finish line there was only 0.2 seconds gap ahead of Pietsch in 2nd and so Greiner took the National title, with Nahr taking the final podium spot in 3rd.
