The Vietnam 1/8th Off-Road National Championship was held this past weekend and it was Kyosho’s own Yuichi Kanai who took the TQ and win in the 1/8th Nitro Buggy class. Phan Quang Vinh (Xray) grabbed the vice championship from Mugen driver Thinh Phan. Nam Nguyen (Xray) and Zi Duong (Mugen) rounded out the top 5 result.

The opening round of the Malaysia National League was held in Shah Alam this past weekend. After missing out on the TQ spot but winning the semifinal David Lim was able to win the 60 minute A-main that was run in very warm conditions with the ambient temperature hitting 36 degree Celsius, making it a demanding race for the competitors.

Exotek Racing have new option parts for the HB D413 1/10th scale 4WD buggy available in the form of aluminium wing mounts, an alloy diff cap and a spring perch set. Starting with the wing mount set, the sturdy looking parts are CNC-machined from 7075 aluminium and they offer a lightweight design to minimise weight gain. They are designed to use low-profile M3 screws to mount the wing and they allow to run high and low wing positions by simply rotating them by 180 degrees. Included with the factory orange anodised parts are four M2.5 tower bolts for easy installation.

The 10th edition of the Petit RC Race was held this past weekend at the RBR36 Arena in Barcelona, Spain, a new indoor facility built and owned by 1/8th Buggy World Champion Robert Batlle. As usual the race attracted some of Europe’s fastest drivers, this time including Jörn Neumann, Migual Matias and of course Robert Battle. The 2WD Buggy and Short Course classes, run on Saturday, saw Jörn Neumann and Robert Batlle leading the proceedings. Jörn took the overall TQ from Dani Batlle while Robert Batlle rounded out the top 3 result. In the Short Course class, that was run in a “finals only” mode, Robert was the man to beat on his home track as he won all but one final legs to take the win from Uri Valde and Vicente Moyano.

Multiple European offroad Champion Hupo Honigl has joined the Serpent Factory team. The former TeamC driver will race all major offroad events in 1/10th scale 2wd, 4wd, ST and SCT with Spyders, as well as all main 1/8th scale events with the Cobra line, GP and EP, truggy and buggy. With his vast experience he will be a big help to all Serpent drivers, and show the true potential of the Serpent offroad cars in Austria, Germany, USA and elsewhere. He will also run the new Serpent S120 1/12 race chassis and work together with Michael Salven and Paul Ciccarello on the development and test side. Expect to see Hupo make his debut for Serpent at next week’s Reedy race in California. Hupo had this to say:
I’m really proud of being part of Serpent now. Not only as driver but also on the business side through my distribution company Hoeco. After being told to be rejuvenated in the beginning of last year, I feel even younger and more motivated then ever before. After building my first Serpent cars i can tell they are designed by champions and also the quality is amazing! SWorkz introduce the Concept S104 Evo 4WD 1/10th scale buggy. Sporting a revised design with updated suspension geometry and shock absorbers the buggy makes also use of the FCSS and Evo 2 systems known from the company’s 1/8th scale buggies. The new stronger suspension arms also add durability and performance as does the standard centre differential that is easily replaced by a slipper clutch if conditions call for it. The buggy is meant to make a first appearance in the hands of SWorkz’s Atsushi Hara at the upcoming Reedy Race of Champions.

Avid have a new vented motor plate for the Team Associated B5 and T5 as well as pink 17mm Triad wheelnuts available. Starting with the motor plate, the part is made for the use with the B5 and B5M buggies as well as the new T5M truck and it helps to scrub weight while allowing hot air and dirt to get out of the gear cover. The 48 degree angled vents are placed to remove material above the motor, yet still maintain a rigid motor plate to keep gear mesh consistent. The part is fully CNC-machined from 6061-T6 aluminium and it comes black anodized with chamfered edges for that luxury look.

Reds Racing welcome Jack Embling to the team for the 2015/16 season. At 17 years young, Jack has already established himself as one of the fastest racers in Europe, and classified 10th at the Italian Job Race this past weekend. Jack has to say the following about the deal:
I have been really impressed with the initial running of the Reds engines. They have a really smooth feeling through out the power range while still giving a perfect speed on the top end to make any difficult jumps or long straights. The engines have also proven to be 100 percent reliable so far and I’m really looking forward to a successful 2015 season powered by Reds Racing.
