Hot Rod Hobbies Shootout qualifying Day 1

The 14th annual Hot Rod Hobbies Shootout was off to a warm start today with rounds 1 and 2 of qualifying. Last year, temperatures topped out at 114 degrees and the weather this year is a bit cooler staying in the 90’s. The track is a dry ran, blue-groove surface that is well know for its massive amounts of traction. The 3-day race starts out with 4 rounds of qualifying. Qual-points determine your seeding for the triple a-mains on Sunday.

Durango DNX408 wheel axles & diff retainers

Team Durango are pleased to announce the arrival of two new option parts for the DNX408 buggy. First up are these aluminium wheel axles which are direct replacements for the standard steel wheel axles on the DNX408. They offer a 64% weight saving over the standard part, reducing both the un-sprung weight of the suspension and rotating weight of the transmission by a total of 26.4grams. Next up are these aluminium diff retainers which add precision, strength and durability to the DNX408. Sold in a pair, they are anodized black and feature lazer etching on both sides.

JConcepts Inverse wheel & updated car stand

Seen at the World Championships in Thailand last November, the new JConcepts Inverse wheel with 2-piece design provides several benefits for maximum tune-ability and ease of use. The inner wheel comes standard in a black matte finish and is designed as a completely smooth surface for the cleanest fit and finish which resists debris build-up. The outer dish is available in bright white or fluorescent yellow and is creatively interlocked with the wheel and with the addition of inner screws can provide tuned flexibility. A 4 or 8 screw combination can be utilized for tuning with 8 screws providing a stiffer inner wheel and 4 screws providing more flex. The Inverse wheel face also incorporates a user friendly wheel face shaped to promote a smoother gluing, wiping and drying experience. Also new from JConcepts is their updated polycarbonate car stand which is now available in a matt black finish.

JConcepts Summer Indoor Nationals update

Over the past weekend some of the nation’s best drivers made their way to Outback Raceway for the JConcepts Summer Indoor Nationals. Viper reports that race conditions were nearing one hundred degrees, with drivers and equipment being pushed to their limits. Viper team drivers Eddie Bernal took victory in Mod Truck running a VTX10 & VST 7.5T, while Nate Lavery finished 2nd place in 17.5 2wd SC and 17.5 2wd buggy running the VTX10 ESC & VST 17.5 motor. Rick Jenkins took 2nd in 1/8e buggy running the prototype VSE 2050kv motor, narrowly beating 3rd position in an exciting drag race to the line.

Jörn Neumann wins 4wd at Belgium GP

The annual Belgium GP for 10th scale buggies took place this past weekend at the Kampenhout track that has played host to the event since its origins in 1989. Team Durango’s Jörn Neumann took the opening round of 4WD qualifying and looked good throughout the day to sit second on the grid for the 3-leg A final. After missing out on the TQ, Jörn was determined not to lose out in the finals and was driving his DEX410 with a mix of agression and precise control in his chase for the #1 spot. In both final legs 1 & 2 Jörn looked the fastest driver and proved it as he pushed past the reigning European Champion Lee Martin to take the lead and despite pressure he was uncatchable on his way to the two leg wins and overall victory with one final still left to run.

Adam Drake wins scorching JBRL Rd4

Last Saturday was round four on Southern California’s JBRL Nitro Series, sponsored by TLR, held at Palm Desert Raceway. The event turnout was light with around 100 entries due to the Holiday weekend and the extreme temperatures of 118 degrees with a track temp of 166 degrees. In qualifying it was Team Losi Racing / Novarossi driver Adam Drake who set the pace in both of the expert 1/8th classes, the extreme temperatures making chassis and engine tuning difficult for most of the racers. At the start of the truck main Drake began to pull away and at the end of the 25 minute main Drake took the win followed by Brad Wintermantle in 2nd, who was also driving a TLR 8ight T 2.0, with Jessie Robinson in 3rd for Mugen.
