Shasa Lackner dominates Swiss 1/8th Nats Rd1

Shasa Lackner dominates Swiss 1/8th Nats Rd1

Last weekend saw the opening round of the Swiss Championship take place in Lostallo, home of last year’s World Championships. Qualifying saw Motonica team driver Shasa Lackner take the pole position with a fastest lap of 19.90 seconds, the only driver to go under the magical 20 seconds, to end up 3 seconds clear of 2nd place qualifier Silvio Hächler. Simon Kurzbuch and Luca Martinelli completed the top 4 direct qualifiers following the 7 minute heats. In the final an early problem for the pole man Lackner saw him lose 2 laps as he needed to replace the gearbox, but a determined drive to the end of the 45 minute final saw him claw back the time to win by 1 lap ahead of Silvio Hächler in 2nd and Luca Martinelli in 3rd a lap further back.

Kissimmee will be more accessible than ever before with Kevin Hutchinson taking on partners Greg Marrall, George Martinez, Dru/Donna Garcia and Dennison Jurawan, who live local to the track. They are already planning once a month events and expect a future announcement for the 5th annual US Open Championships.

Hayato Matsuzaki dominates Asia Cup

Hayato Matsuzaki dominates Asia Cup

Our good friend Scotty Ernst sent us the following report from Japan where he attended the 2010 Asia Cup. In the world of motorsport there are many places that stand out as historic venues, Le Mans, Monaco, Daytona, Indianapolis, all are historic venues and all with a rich past of history and tradition. In our world of racing, there is truly only 1 place that holds the history and past that our counterparts in full scale racing hold, and that place is Yatabe Arena in Japan. Yatabe, started back in 1989, has hosted and crowned more World Champions than any other venue in our world of racing and when you look at the names of the drivers who have raced here and have won World Championships here, you truly see the history that Yatabe has earned.

Andy Moore leads Union Square GP qualifying

Andy Moore leads Union Square GP qualifying

Day one of the Union Square Grand Prix is done and its Hot Bodies driver Andy Moore that leads the field in the touring car class. Chasing him hard for TQ honours is the Xray pairing of Phil Chambers and Stefan Chodzyski. Also running are the 10.5 pro stock 1:12 cars and its Andy Sawyer leading overall. Expecting to challenge Sawyer, once he gets up to speed, is Mark Stikes who arrived late due to the Icelandic volcano, which has been causing problems for some of the competitors. Two more rounds of qualifying are still to be run tomorrow followed by three leg finals late on Sunday afternoon. The event has been a major success so far taking RC racing to public as the event is being run in a new multi million pound shopping centre in Aberdeen, Scotland. To help develop interest beyond simply spectating the organisers have arranged a session for the public to try out some ready to run cars at the end of every round of qualifying.

KM Racing H-K1 200mm prototype IV

KM Racing H-K1 200mm prototype IV

Having released details on their prototype H-K1 200mm chassis back in the beginning of February, KM Racing have made some big changes since then and will finally go into production. Refined from the previous version we covered, currently in its 4th revision, the latest car now features an extremely low radio tray and fuel tank to keep the centre of gravity as low as possible. Other changes compared to the previous prototype include the ability to adjust the wheelbase in both the front and rear, while the aluminum middle shaft bracket now features a mounting point for the exhaust mounting spring. We have been told to expect photos of this new car by the end of April.
