Round 2 of the BRCA 1/10th scale 200mm Nationals were held at the weekend in Mendip, and run to EFRA style with bump-ups and a 45 minute final. Saturday was damp in the morning due to rain on Friday night and the track wasn’t really that good until 3pm and still wasn’t too good then. On Sunday the weather was really good and in qualifying it was round 1 winner Kyle Branson that took the TQ spot by continuously improving his time, following a bad run in the first qualifying round, to line up ahead of Serpent team mate Simon Wood. In the final Kyle got off to a good start, staying in first place, and managed to stay there for the rest of the race to take the win ahead of 2nd placed Johnathan Dobney and Kevin Taylor in 3rd.

Pete Hastings wins BRCA 1/8th Rd1

Pete Hastings wins BRCA 1/8th Rd1

The opening round of the BRCA 1/8th scale nationals was held at Brooklands yesterday and with 43 drivers, both new and old faces, in attendance it was a very enjoyable start to the season. In Qualifying, it was Mark Green setting the pace yet again, but this year the performance advantage is very clear to see using his new Novarossi engines. The fight for second was very close and would eventually be determined by which driver could make 5 minutes run time. With this being the case, Andy North just beat Pete Hastings by 0.02 of a second. In the final, Mark Green pulled out a big lead with the chasing pack of Andy, Pete and Neil Diver also pulling out a lead over the mid field. At 13 mins, Andy North went off whilst in a strong 2nd place due to a battery pack support bracket working loose and up front Mark Green had a battery failure, all of which promoted Pete into a comfortable lead which he maintained to the finish. The 2nd spot went to reigning champion Tim Wood, with Neil Diver in third after drive belt issues close to the end prevented a 2nd place finish.

New South Wales State Gas title report

New South Wales State Gas title report

Top drivers from Australia converged towards the John Grant International Raceway in Sydney’s west for a taste of what was to come later in the year for the National titles at this venue (Moorebank Raceway). The NSWRCRCC, invested their funds into track resurfacing and with the help of their committed members, exceeded the expectations of the racers attending. A new laid, silky smooth bitumen surface was kerbed with official sky blue transitions, uniform and inviting throughout the track. The false sense of being nursed by these delightful kerbs, revealed the wicked grass that seemed to pounce onto a shell and capture it within it’s stringy mesh. It was understandable, the club recently laid the grass, rain in Sydney also added to it’s volume, it was impartial to all scales without bias.
