Keven Herbert does double at NEGS Rd3

Keven Herbert reports on the third leg of the NEGS (Northeast Grand Slam Series) was held the weekend of January 16-17 in at Tri-State Hobbies in Cincinnati, Ohio. Having missed the second leg of the series, I had some extra pressure to do well now that I had already used my one throw-out. Friday was practice all day and early on I was very happy with both my TC5R and 12R5.1. Along with Paul Ciccarello, I was setting some of the fastest lap times in both Pro Rubber class and Pro 1/12 Class. Chris Goetz was also showing some early speed and was turning some fast laps with his Schumacher car in the rubber class.

Rick V is gripped by Matrix Tires

Matrix tires in Italy have announced that they have signed multiple World and European Championship finalist, Rick Vrielijnck. The Dutch factory Mugen driver will use the new tires on both his 1/8th and 1/10th scale cars as he competes in both European Championships in Italy and Sweden respectively, as well as the 200mm Worlds in Houston Texas. Back in November last year Rick also announced his move to Novarossi for the 2010 season.

Niko Cheng wins at Excellent Speedway

Last Saturday saw the first open race in Malaysia, held at Excellent Speedway in the north of country and saw over 70 drivers in attendance. In the 1/8th scale GTP class it was reigning national champion Niko Cheng driving for Shepherd who dominated the whole event. After 3 rounds of qualifying he claimed the TQ spot for the 35 min A final clocking the fastest laptimes of all drivers. At the start of the final he could pull away easily and was unchallenged for the whole race distance. He crossed the finishing line in first position with a gap of 7 laps on the second placed driver claiming the first victory of the 2010 racing season. With his brand-new Velox V10 Niko Cheng also participated in the 1/10 nitro touring class. After 3 rounds of qualifying he lined up in the starting grid on second position. At the start of the 40 min final he could take over the first position until the first pitstops. Unfortunately he dropped back due to some minor mistakes and finished on 8th position.

HPI Formula Ten Aluminium shock set

Boost the performance of your HPI Formula Ten car with an aluminium shock set. This is a high-quality oil-filled, CNC-machined pre-assembled aluminium damper with a 54mm length, perfect for replacing the stock friction shocks on the Formula Ten. For convenient mounting, the shock is fitted with pivot balls that swivel in plastic shock ends. A longer shock shaft end is included for cars that need longer shocks, and long M3 cap head screws are included for attaching the shock to the chassis and rear pod. Clip-on ride height adjusters allow you to quickly change the length of the shock. The shock will fit Formula Ten option springs and standard size touring car shock springs (13mm diameter). Yokomo BD5 Flex chassis plate

New from Yokomo for their BD5 touring is this new special flex chassis. Used by their team to finish 1-2-3 at the Japanese touring car nationals, this new carbon fibre chassis plate has been designed by Umino Kojiro to be used in combination with a front one way on lower grip surfaces such as those on outdoor tracks as well as on very tight indoor tracks to give more grip and steering. Available in a limited quantity only.

CSO 966 Lightweight 2-speed shaft

Similar to the gearbox shaft released yesterday, CSO have produced another lightweight 2-speed shaft, this time suitable for the Serpent 960 & 966. A direct replacement for the stock part, it has been made from steel which has been hollowed out for extra weight savings without sacrificing the durability of the part.

Shepherd Velox V8 rear body mount extension

New from Shepherd are these rear body mount extensions for the Velox V8. Due to the design of current 1/8th scale bodies and the allowed riding height many racers raise the rear body mount to increase the angle of the body as well as the downforce. With the new easy to install aluminium extension it is very comfortable to adjust the height of the rear body mount. Within a few moments the height can be changed and different setups can be tried. The set includes the aluminium extensions, body clips and extra long nylon screws.

CRC Pink Pro Cuts, Final Cut & Battle Axe upgrades

More new items from CRC who have introduced their soft long wear pink front Pro Cut 1/12th tires. Pink is 30 shore R4 from Japan. The R4 line of rubber is very durable and long wear with the soft 30 shore providing extremely high grip. This tire is best for low grip carpet and asphalt surfaces. To reduce these and any other tires to the correct diameter CRC have also released the Final Cut tire truer cutting bit. A super hard tungsten carbide cutting bit with sharp, super hard teeth it remains sharp cut after cut. The finish on the foam after truing is absolutely smooth and ready to race. Because it cuts so cleanly and aggressively, the Final Cut truing bit reduces the load on the truer motor by removing material rather than pushing it around. Finally for their Battle Axe oval car, is a left offset motor pod conversion that pushes the motors to the left for better cornering speeds. The parts are available in a couple different conversion “kits” and separately as well. The rear top plate has been ‘tweaked’ to allow easier use of CRC’s new Encore Shocks. Also available is the wide-mount cross plate that allows you to use much shorter body mounts in a more stable wider position.
