Protoform R9-R & PF8 GT body shells

Protoform R9-R & PF8 GT body shells

Protoform have released their much anticipated R9-R, which is the latest in 190mm touring sedan bodies. This Global Body Spec ready race body is designed specifically for rubber tire racing whether it’s on a carpet or a paved surface racetrack. It features a low center of gravity even at the legal 115mm height. The oversize rear wing helps performance on a poor-grip surface that’s commonly experienced in club racing. Also new is the PF8 GT shell, designed for the exciting 1/8th scale GT class. This body style is sure to enhance speed and handling with its large rear wing and front splitter. It’s pulled in rugged genuine lexan and features 3 wing struts for added durability. If more rear downforce is required, the wing has the extra lexan material needed to bend a “gurney lip” across the top edge. Both bodies come with protective film, decals and wing mounting hardware.

Defending Champion through to final day

Keisuke Fukuda

He’s the current World Champion and he’s been enduring a tough time in Portugal so far qualifying only 34th but Keisuke Fukuda has kept his title defence hopes alive by winning the 1/8 Final B which will see him progress to the final day of the 2008 competition. The Japanese ace looked as though his woes were to continue today as his car stalled during the count down to the start, the drama putting him last at the end of the opening lap.

Overnight exhaust controversy at Worlds

Sirio Pipe

Following an official protest by Novarossi during the final round of qualifying yesterday, Sirio drivers, who make up 3 of the top 4 drivers will no longer be allowed to use the latest version of the Sirio #2611 exhaust pipe. Novarossi’s protest was originally not accepted however at what we understand was a very heated 1:10 Section meeting last night at the official hotel for the event, IFMAR made the descision to issue the following statement late last night which means that the new version of the #2611 pipe, as used by Jilles Groskamp to TQ, may no longer be used.

HB Lightweight EU Mazda 6 body

Hot Bodies Lightweight EU Mazda 6 MPS

Hot Bodies have released the new Moore-Speed Mazda 6 bodyshell, which has been improved for extra downforce, sleeker lines and improved traction in all conditions. The new bodyshell features several aerodynamic tweaks for more high-speed steering and a longer profile for improved straight-line stability, this will be the body to have for circuits of any size. From its new air splitter to the revised rear spill plates, this Moorespeed bodyshell is all-new and all about speed and handling. The front bumper, splitter, winglets, and the new bonnet bulge all enhance steering at high speed. A deep aero-channel from the windscreen to the rear deck improves air flow to the rear wing and new lip spoiler, while new bumper spill plates aid the exit of air from under the body.

No change at the top in Lisbon

Dario Balestri heat action

The second qualifier for the faster group of drivers has been run but it made little change to the top of the timesheets. Dario Balestri was biggest benefactor of Round 4 climbing four places in the overall qualification standings after producing the fifth fastest run. The Team Magic driver said he had the right tyres this time and his car felt really good although a slight error by his pit woman cost him a possible TQ run. Fastest for the round was Martin Lissau who produced an almost identical time to his current FTQ time from Heat 3 finishing just 3/1000th slower!!

Shimo goes fastest in Lisbon

Takaaki Shimo

Takaaki Shimo got his day off to a great start by setting a new TQ time in the third round of qualifying. The Kyosho/OS team driver recorded 32 laps in 10:16.393 and now sits at the top of the time sheets ahead of fast Danish pairing Martin Lissau and Martin Christensen. Shimo was modest about his run describing it as ‘So So’. The Japanese driver said his car was excellent in the first half of the heat but in the last five minutes it became very nervous. Not a big fan of the track here in Monsanto he plans to make set-up changes for the second of today’s heats but is unsure of what he can adjust to cure the problem he is experiencing in the second half of the run.
