Cris Oxley is BRCA Micro Scale Champion

Cris Oxley is BRCA Micro Scale Champion

We received a report from the 4th round of the BRCA Micro Nationals, which after a 2 month break returned to the carpet at the Tamworth TRRAC club’s new venue. The track layout was challenging from the start. Corrugated plastic rumble strips, a perspex crossover, 12ft high wall ride, a gym mat filled ‘S-bend’ and a corner table top back onto the main 20m long straight would separate the men from the boys and make for exciting finals later on in the day.

Tamiya TamTech Buggy Champ – oOple

Tamiya TamTech Buggy Champ - oOple

Not something we would normally write about but as oOple have raced this car last weekend, that makes it suitable for Red RC. Called the Buggy Champ, the mini rough rider from Tamiya is based on its bigger 10th scale cousin from around 1979 or so. The overall look of the original rough rider has been kept much more so than in the previously released mini frog’s case. The main distinct feature of the Buggy Champ being the trailing front suspension which is really the only difference that separates this, the newly-designated GB02 chassis, from the GB01 used on all the other current range.

LRP S8 BX Team buggy

LRP S8 BX Team buggy

LRP has announced the release of their own 1/8th scale buggy called the S8 BX. Similar to the Z-car from SH Engines, it features an angled engine mount, that combined with centrally mounted radio components guarantees optimum weight distribution. Due to this centred chassis layout the S8 BX is easy to handle and the cornering ability is outstanding, especially through chicanes it will amaze you! The revolutionary rear suspension design with active caster gives the car an improved shock absorbing characteristic and makes stability and agility a standard feature. The new system results in smoother and better handling even under roughest track conditions. The S8 BX is completely realised in no e-clip design.

Hupo Honigl to run X-Factory in 2008

Hupo Honigl to run X-Factory for 2008

We received news from X-Factory to let us know that current European 4wd Champion Hupo Honigl from Austria, will run the company’s X-6 2wd car in 2008. Since his main sponsor Tamiya does not currently make a 2WD buggy, Honigl is free to run the car of his choice in that class, and Hupo has chosen X Factory’s New Math. In his very first race with the X-6, Hupo won the Austrian Indoor Winter Championship last weekend, beating a strong field of challengers with a borrowed box-stock car. X-Factory had not been able to ship Hupo’s car and parts from the US in time for this early-January race, so he borrowed the car of his friend Florian Klemm, complete with the original X-6 transmission and shock tower and dominated the race.

Atomic Carbon S2 buggy pics

Atomic Carbon S2 buggy pics

Jimmy over at oOple managed to get some first pictures of the new Atomic Carbon S2, a car that has been around all year in various guises, gradually evolving until a layout that worked was arrived at. This, the pre-production car, is a work of art – losing any rough edges the prototypes might have had and with a swish new carbon laminate tub chassis specially made for this car. A new 4-gear gearbox and cell layout distinguish this car from the prototypes and the car should be available as a conversion for the popular RC10B4 from Associated. Also spotted was the new 4wd chassis from Atomic Carbon, that sports donor parts from the Associated B44 and a newly designed front end, but he unfortunately wasnt allowed to take any pictures of it.

Go to oOple to get more close up pictures of the S2.

Boots wins Novarossi Winter Series Rd4

Boots wins Novarossi Winter Series Rd4

Round four of the Novarossi Raceway Winter Series was run last weekend and the event went like clockwork which meant plenty of racing for everyone. Elliot Boots took control of the meeting in round one with a stunning time to ensure maximum points for the round. It was then the turn of David Spashett to take rounds 2 and 3 securing TQ for the day. In the main final trouble for David at the start of the final put him all the way to the back, while Elliot Boots, Reece Sawyer and Simon Reeves took to the front of the pack and never looked back, all three holding there positions for the 20 minute final. An excellent battle between Richard Bettaney and David Spashett completed the top 5 for the day. In the truggy class local star Joe Joyce had a terrible time and had to bump from the B final to then continue his better luck and form to finish third overall. TQ man Chris Larner didn’t get the rub of the race track to convert his TQ to the win which left Steve Slayford to drive an exceptional race and the overall victory.
