Schumacher BTCC Rd5 – Report

Schumacher BTCC Rd5 – Report

The Schumacher BTCC series moved on to another very fast circuit this past weekend in the form of Mendip. The championship is still very much wide open in all three classes, so it was set to be a great event. Lots of drivers were in attendance on Saturday for some practice and to get their cars set up to their liking. Unlike other rounds the weather was lovely sunshine and hot temperatures, this was how it stayed for the whole weekend. On to Sunday and race day, we had the usual open practice session first thing and then it was into qualifying mode. The race format was the usual format of round by round qualifying, however this time the organisers managed to get an extra round of qualifying into the schedule so it was the best three from five rounds to count. This was good practice for the drivers attending the National in two weeks.

Mugen MTX6 hard wheel axles & alloy clutch bell

Mugen have introduced new option parts for the MTX6 1/10th 200mm touring car in the form of hard-anodised aluminium wheel axles and a nickel-plated aluminium clutch bell. The 7075 alloy wheel axle shafts are a direct replacement for the stock parts and they are designed to scrub both unsprung weight and rotational mass, resulting in improved on-track performance. Additional machining further scrubs weight and different sets of cross pin holes allow to use a fresh pair of holes once the actual start to show signs of wear, improving the lifespan of the parts.

Ryan Maifield wins at Sidewinder Nitro Explosion

Ryan Maifield wins at Sidewinder Nitro Explosion

This past weekend the annual Sidewinder Nitro Explosion was held at RC Tracks of Las Vegas, host of the forthcoming IFMAR 1/8th Nitro Buggy Worlds. Excessive heat and a low turnout of drivers left the organisers with no choice but to make the usually very successful event a 1-day affair. In the Buggy Expert class TLR’s Dakotah Phend took the overall TQ only to experience a very messy start that saw Dakotah dropping down the field massively. Up front a fight between Ryan Maifield (TLR) and Ty Tessmann (HB Racing) arose but it was Maifield who was able to built a small margin on his competitor around mid-race that he would hold onto until the end of the race. Ty Tessmann had to settle for second while Dakotah Phend recovered to third overall.

BMT 701 1/10th 200mm nitro on-road kit

BMT 701 1/10th 200mm nitro on-road kit

Italian company BMT have introduced their all-new 701 1/10th 200mm nitro on-road kit. The car is based on a 7075-T6 aluminium chassis whose design ensures equal torque flex characteristics left to right and it utilises lightweight transmission parts, including a small and ultra low weight 2-speed assembly, for reduced rotational masses and thus improved acceleration and braking. For reliability reasons both the front and rear differential come with high-quality steel gears, greatly improving durability especially on high-grip surfaces. The chassis is topped off by a 2mm carbon fibre top plate that uses fuel tank quick releases, a 1-piece servo support and a flex system with bushings. The included radio box can be used or even left away to further scrub weight.
