The past weekend saw the opening round of the Swiss 1/8th scale championships take place in Aigle, in the French part of Switzerland. In qualifying it was Serpent racer Markus Geisendorf that took the TQ spot, 2 seconds ahead of Kyosho racer Loris Pierroz with the only Motonica driver Mattia Pesenti in 3rd, less than 2 seconds further back. In the 45 minute race it was Geisendorf all the way, going on to win by a lap and a half ahead of Mugen racer Petros Diamantogiannis in 2nd with Motonica racer Pesenti in 3rd. Our site sponsors, The Border, have forwarded us some information concerning Motonica’s new signing Milko Tenthof. Milko, for those of you who dont know, used to be a Serpent employee as well as team driver up until 3 or so years ago when he and the Dutch manufacturer parted company. In those years racing, Milko had raced in World and European Championship finals as well as winning numerous EFRA GP’s and National Championships and that is why this signing is important for Motonica. …a lap faster than last year. In third position was Kyosho factory racer, Ilia van Gastel from Belgium, who having not received his Team Orion .21 motors in time ran the qualifying with Picco IDM motors and the main final with a Sirio. In the Nomac class it was young Miguel Hereijgers that took the class win driving a Serpent 960, with Motonica racer and Red RC sponsor, Michel Nijman from The-Border in 2nd spot while 3rd place went to Mugen racer Arie Mante. …team that will contest the German Nationals driving the Slovakian manufacturers new 200mm chassis, the NT1. For the southern region they have Alexander Stocker, Thomas Günsel, Michael Heinrich and Robert Pietsch, the latter if you recall is the designer of the Shepherd Velox 07. For central Germany they will have Dirk Wischnewski and Patrik Garbi, in east Germany they will have Wilfried Stecker and finally in the west they will be represented by European 235mm Champion Alain Levy, Alex Piperato and the brother team of Jörg and Uwe Baldes who recently signed to Motonica in 1/8th scale. Masao Tanaka was making his international debut for Motonica and finished in 6th, giving a strong showing for this car while the other Japanese in the final was current 1/10th World Champion Keisuke Fukuda who suffered problems ending his race in 9th, one place ahead of World Champ Collari who retired early on due to radio problems.
