Novak is introducing a high-torque version of its popular Ballistic 550 motor. The Ballistic 550 Hi-Torque brushless 4.5T motor includes Novak’s larger diameter 14mm tuning rotor for a higher temperature threshold, higher torque and lower Kv. This combination is perfect for 4×4 Short Course trucks and offers drivers a different feel and response from their motor. This system will be available in May.

On Saturday, March 5th 2011, Rockstar Energy Suzuki rider Ian Trettel sustained a severe head injury during practice at the AMA Supercross event in Daytona Beach. Trettel, a rising rookie, drafted from the amateur Suzuki team had finished 5th in his Supercross Pro Debut this year. He is currently in Atlanta, GA at the Shepard Center for rehab and is making progress every day. Losi is donating a XXX-SCT for the Trettel Auction on eBay via Road 2 Recovery’s store front. The first round of the Taiwanese on-road national championship was held last weekend at the Tainan GTR Racing Track and attracted close to 80 drivers in 3 different classes 1/10th GP, 1/8th GP and 1/10th EP. Serpent Taiwan driver Huang Yi-Hao took his S733 to the expert class TQ, setting a best lap time of 17.6 seconds, which would be a new class track record. He went on to take the win in the final ahead of Xray NT1 driver Howard Cho in 2nd with another Serpent S733, that of Ji-Chen Ton, in 3rd. The 1/8th GP class was won by top qualifier Wing Wang Sang-Chun ahead of Yang Chong Zha in 2nd and Shu Jhi Hao in 3rd, while in the 1/10th EP class it was Leo Chan who took victory from pole position, with Zen Wen-Pin in 2nd and Ron Chen in 3rd.
Last weekend saw the first of the 6-round Short Course national series kick off at the all-weather Astroturf track at Silverstone RCMCC. In the 4WD class, Team Durango driver Stuart Harlow dominated qualifying, taking all four rounds for the TQ spot and first on the grid. Jimmy Storey placed 2nd on the grid with the DESC410R, with Terry Atkinson 4th on the grid with yet another DESC410R. Grip levels were very high and drivers were trimming tyres to reduce the tendancy for grip roll. The finals were run over two legs instead of the 3 the drivers had been promised and it was best time to count. In leg one Jimmy Storey took up the lead after a few laps and took the leg win, but it was still very much to play for in the second leg. After taking the lead early again, Jimmy made an error passing a backmarker and Stuart re-took the lead for a couple of laps before positions changed again. Jimmy Storey took the second leg and with it the win. Stuart Harlow came in second overall for a Team Durango 1-2.

The 2011 CRC cup was held at one of the finest carpet venues in Japan, the Crest speedway Race facility in Gunma Prefecture. The CRC cup is an open race for all 1/12th pan car to participate in that is sponsored by Team CRC Japan. 43 drivers participated in this race, including three from the quake-stricken area of the country. Following qualifying it was CRC driver Hayato that took the TQ ahead of team mate Toshiki in 2nd. In the final the places were reversed with Toshiki taking the win ahead of Hayato in 2nd.
