Stiles does the Double At BRCA 1/12th Rd1

Last weekend saw round one of this winter’s BRCA 1/12th scale nationals take place in Crewe. The meeting saw most of the familiar faces in attendance along with the return of one or two names who haven’t attended the nationals for a couple of years. The most notable of these was Olly Jefferies, who will be driving an Associated R5.1 in this year’s championship. Last years champion Elliott Harper and former European Champion Andy Moore will also be at the next round, but were absent at this meeting due to International racing commitments.

Team Orion Carbon Molecular LiPo batteries

Team Orion Carbon Molecular LiPo batteries

Team Orion have announced their new range of hard case Carbon Molecular LiPo batteries. Since 2008 Oscar Jansen, the company’s electric R&D manager, has been working closely with their manufacturing plant with the aim to create the most powerful LiPo battery produced today. The goal has been to produce cells made for RC Car applications and not to just choose existing cells from the industrial production and put them on the market. Everything started from a white page, a new factory was established and all the production is exclusive to Team Orion. The basic idea is to produce the lowest internal resistance batteries with the highest power output able to provide the peak current required for acceleration but also to maintain the voltage under heavy load. Multi carbon molecules are used in the construction of the LiPo batteries so the cells have the possibility to recover voltage extremely fast. This allows a 45C constant current discharge of 10 seconds which means about 250 Amps. For such current pure copper 12AWG wire is used, soldered directly to the cell terminals. Available in a wide range of configurations for different applications.

Wilck and Stocker cruise to Leg 1 victory

Wilck and Stocker cruise to Leg 1 victory

Top Qualifiers Viktor Wilck and Alexander Stocker both cruised to easy victories in Leg 1 of their respective A-Mains here in Germany at the opening round of the 2009/10 ETS.  In Modified Wilck said the race was a little easier than expected as the challenge from Tamiya team-mate Marc Rheinard failed to materialise.  The Swede said it was more difficult than it looked to the large crowd of onlookers and he expects Marc to be back to the pace he showed in Q5 for Leg 2.  Both drivers ran the same set-up, however Rheinard said his TRF416X was just too slow.  Only changing the rear diff since qualifying the German said the car lacked corner speed and he is unsure what to do as the diff feels good.
