Davide Ongaro wins Buggy Euros warm-up

In a weekend that saw many high-class (warm-up) races it was Team Associated’s Davide Ongaro who would take the win at the EFRA 1/8th Nitro Buggy European Championship warm-up held at the Ongaro Ring in Sacile, Italy. Xray’s Marco Baruffolo also looked like he would be in the mix for the win in the main final, however he was hampered by flame-out issues. Up front and behind Ongaro it was the duo of Mugen’s Robert Batlle and HB Racing’s David Ronnefalk who fought for the runner-up spot with the better end for David who took benefit of a last-minute situation Robert had with a back marker. Ultimately David would come in 2nd a lap down on Davide as Robert had to settle for 3rd, some seven seconds behind on David. TLR’s Renaud Savoya and Kyosho’s Joao Figueiredo would complete the top 5 results.

Martin Bayer successful at IFMAR Buggy Worlds Warm-up

Last weekend’s warm-up race to the 2019 IFMAR 1/10th Off-road World Championships, held at the Hudy Racing Arena in Slovakia, saw Xray’s Martin Bayer taking the win in the 4WD class. The 4WD action started on Saturday right after the 2WD finals. Team Associated’s Joona Haatanen was setting the early pace in free practice, however in the timed practice, three drivers – Bayer, Haatanen, and Rivkin – were able to place times below the magical 1:10 minutes barrier with Martin Bayer being the fastest of the three. Joona Haatanen started strong again into the qualifiers by taking Q1. Q2 and Q3 then went to Martin Bayer. Schumacher’s Michal Orlowski took Q4 and Xray’s Daniel Kobbevik set the pace in Q5. So when the dust had settled it was Martin Bayer ahead of Joona Haatanen and Bruno Coelho. Things then gained further traction in the finals with a lot of track action going on. In A1 it was Martin Bayer who took the win. In A2 it was great battle between Xray’s Bruno Coelho and Martin Bayer for the win but Bruno would hold the upper hand. This meant three drivers would be going into A3 who could possibly take the overall – Bayer, Coelho, Kobbevik. Ultimately Martin Bayer laid down a great run and claimed the overall win on home soil followed by Coelho and Kobbevik.

Xray’s Martin Bayer took the timed practice, however in the qualifiers it was Xray’s Bruno Coelho who was able to take the overall TQ in front of Martin Bayer and Daniel Kobbevik (Xray). Team Associated’s young gun, Joona Haatanen was showing a good pace during qualifications and was able to take Q3. Going into the finals on Saturday, Bruno was the man to beat but Bruno held his starting position and after taking A1 and A2 he secured the overall win early. Martin Bayer finished 2nd and Joona Haatanen came in 3rd. Team Associated’s Spencer Rivkin and Dustin Evens were able to move up a bit and finished 4th and 5th respectively.

SWorkz S14-3 aluminium steering knuckles & C-hubs

SWorkz have announced the release of new aluminium steering knuckles and C-hubs for their S14-3 1/10th 4WD off-road buggy. Starting with the wheel hubs, the parts offer a perfect fit for the ball races and driveshafts and thus improved drivetrain efficiency while also prolonging bearing life. The parts also add about 3.5g of weight and they offer improved durability. The hub comes separately and it is usable on the left or the right. Also new are 9 or 11 degree caster C-hubs made of aluminium. They are usable with the standard or alloy steering knuckles and their alloy construction adds a certain weight and durability. PSM S35-3 modular hub weight set

Available now from PSM is their modular hub weight set for the SWorkz S35-3 series of off-road kits. This balance weight system will be attached to the front hub and can be equipped with up to six 4.5g weights per side. A pair per side is already included in the set with additional weight being available separately. The additional weight added to the hub creates more pressure on the wheel, which can be a traction advantage in many cases without affecting the suspension setup. Installation is simple with only two screws, making it easy to detach the parts for maintenance or setup reasons. PSM recommend using the system especially on tracks whose racing line is dry and dust free.

Kasekamp & Lainemae win at Estonian Off-road Nats Rd1

Round 1 of the Estonian Off-road Nationals was held at the Tartu RC track recently featuring all sorts of scales, ranging from 1/10th scale up to 1/5th Large Scale, making for ever changing conditions on the astroturf and red clay track. In qualifying it would be Hendrik Lainemae setting the pace in both E-Buggy and Nitro Buggy. The trend would continue in the finals. Nitro Buggy would see a lot of interesting situations for the top drivers. Hendrik would lead the field for the start of the 30-minute final but flamed out on the in-lap for the first round of pit-stops. Karl Kasekamp would take the lead, closely followed by Robin Ilus. Some 14 minutes into the race, Karl would pit after mishearing someone else being called in. Robin Ilus would suffer a flame-out and a shaky last pit stop for Hendrik would give Karl a safe gap to pit an extra time before the end. On the last laps Hendrik would pass Rainer Ressar, who had a mostly clean recovery drive after his 1st lap which dropped him to last, for 2nd position.
