The second round of this year’s JBRL Winter Indoor Off-road Series was held at SDRC Raceway in San Diego, California this past weekend. In the 2WD Open Buggy class it was Team Associated’s Austin Pannone with the win from Tyler Hicks 2nd and Matthew Gonzales 3rd, making it an all-Team-Associated podium.
Coming from VP-Pro is their new VP-601 pre-mounted 1/10th monster truck tyre. Of a new rubber compound the tyre combines grip and durability with the on-road tread making the tyre best used on sealed surfaces such as asphalt and concrete but also hard-packed clay. The tyre sports a 123mm diameter, 68mm width and it comes on 12mm hex Y-spoke rims.

Coming from Serpent and made for the SDX4 1/10th 4WD off-road buggy are improved carbon fibre shock towers. The V2 towers offer an optimised geometry for fine-tuned droop and up travel settings as well as an additional shock angle hole, and optimised camber link settings that are more spaced for greater durability. The shock towers are available separately from now on.
LRP have introduced their 2018 Competition Car Line series of LiHV battery packs. All are made using the new Graphene-2 high-voltage 120C/60C cells for improved power output, a lower weight and improved cell life when charged to the standard 4.2V cut-off voltage. The hardcase packs utilise 5mm bullet-type connectors and they are available in several configurations including the 8000mAh TC Stock Spec, 6400mAh TC LCG Stock Spec and 6000mAh 112.5mm long Mid Shorty pack. Also new are the 5800mAh Stock Spec Shorty, the 4600mAh 25.1mm Light Shorty Stock Spec and 4200mAh 22.5mm Real Shorty batteryies. The range is rounded out by the 8000mAh 1/12th Ultra LCG 1S pack and the 6200mAh 1/12th Ultra LCG Stock Spec battery.

VP-Pro have introduced a new aluminium setup wheel set for 1/8th off-road buggies and GT vehicles. They are precision machined from high-quality alloy material, come with a black surface coating, white lettering and silver edge details for a professional look. The wheels will make camber, toe and droop adjustments more precise and they come in sets of four.

Coming from Schelle are the new 76mm light CVA bones for the Team Associated and universal 3+1 shock pistons for a range of 1/10th off-road vehicles. Starting with the front CVA bones, 2-piece bones utilise a lightweight aluminium pin drive shaft mated to proven MIP steel CVA yokes. The bones can handle the power of both 13.5 and 17.5 motors but are not recommended for modified racing. They save about 3.5g of rotating weight, and fit the B64 and B64D.
Capital City Raceway played host to the 5th Annual Big Bend Shootout recently. Challenging racing conditions with a rough yet high grip track and cold weather made things interesting for the racers and in Pro Nitro Buggy it was Xray’s Landen Lewis who made the best out of the conditions, taking home the win in front of Tekno’s Kenny Morris Jr. and Serpent’s Will McGiver.

Thornhill Raceway of Hutto, Texas held their Toys for Tots race last weekend, raising $3000 and lots of toys for the good cause. Jason Woolridge (Xray) was top qualifier in Nitro and would also bring home the win from Xray teammate, Nick Vanderpool while Elliott Martinez rounded out the top 3 results. Over in E-Buggy it was again Jason Woolridge (Xray) with the win as Daniel Grobe (Xray) and Sean Gallagher (Mugen) completed the podium.
