Mugen’s Robert Pietsch and Capricorn’s Dario Balestri TQ the second round of qualifying at the Euro Nitro Series season opener, Pietsch topping the 1:8 times from Alberto Picco by just .007 of a second while Balestri was the only driver who could manage 13-laps in 1:10 taking the qualifier over Francesco Tironi and Q1 pace setter Teemu Leino.

After some rain delays, 1:8 qualifying at the opening round of the new Euro Nitro Series saw Lamberto Collari top the first of the four qualifiers in Melzo, Italy. Driving a privately entered Mugen/OS combination the 9-time World Champion topped the round from the BMT of Daniele Ielasi with Mugen’s Robert Pietsch completing the Top 3 of what was an extremely competitive affair with the first 8 drivers covered by just 1.8 seconds.

The 2014 Pro-Line LoneStar Challenge will take place from the 15th to 18th of May at the Thornhill Racing Circuit. The race doubles as the warm-up for this year’s ROAR Gas Nationals and is also the third stop of the 2014 USPro Cup tour and already attracted all of the industry’s big names. The event will see Pro, Open and Sportsman classes for Nitro Buggy, Nitro Truggy and E-Buggy as well as 40+ Nitro Buggy, Truggy and E-Buggy and also Pro and Sport Pro4 SC classes. MRRC Raceway, a new club in Long Island, NY, will hold their season opener this weekend. The race will see 1/8th Nitro Buggy and Truggy as well as E-Buggy and E-Truggy classes along 4WD Pro4 SC, run on a new track built by The Dirt’s Joey Christensen. More information can be found here.

Protoform have new merchandise availabke in the form of two T-shirts and a hoodie. First up is the Protoform Heritage shirt, a vintage style red heather shirt with script lettering and a classic checkered flag accent on the front. On the back the shirt sports PF’s original tag line from 1992. The second new shirt is made from black 100 percent pre-shrunk cotton and sports a large “Aero Matters” statement on the front and a Protoform logo on the back. Both T-shirts are available in adult sizes ranging from S to XXL. Last but not least comes the Champions zip-up hoodie. Black of colour it features a large crest on the front displaying Protoform’s world championship legacy and the PF logo on the left sleeve. Despite having not raced 1:10 200mm nitro since the World Championships in Thailand in 2012, HB’s Teemu Leino got his return to the class off to an impressive start as he TQ’d the first qualifier at the opening round of the all new Euro Nitro Series in Melzo. Having set the pace in practice at the Italian event earlier in the day, the Finn completed a perfect first day posting the fastest time over the 4-minute qualifier by .638 of a second from World’s podium finisher Francesco Tironi with Serpent’s Dominic Greiner completing the Top 3. Having posted the second fastest time in practice, Dario Balestri would fail to complete a single lap in Q1 suffering a throttle servo failure in his Capricorn on his out lap.
