Ryan Maifield has TQ’d the opening round of 4WD Buggy qualifying at the JConcepts Clash, the Team Associated ace topping the time sheets at the Mississippi event from TLR’s Cody Hollis with defending champion Jason Ruona completing the Top 3. The 7th running of the annual event, Maifield’s main rival Dustin Evans would retire from his opening run with a broken font shock tower.

The seventh running of the annual JConcepts Clash takes place this weekend in Flowood Mississippi where the big battle is set to between Team Associated’s Ryan Maifield and Team Losi Racing’s Dustin Evans. The winner of the three main classes at last year’s event when the ‘Clash’ made its first visit to the Flowood RC Indoor Park, Maifield has this year dropped out of the 1:8 Nitro Buggy instead running in 4WD as part of his preparations for the Electric Offroad World Championships which are just over 2 weeks away. Evans has also dropped nitro in favour of running 4WD EP Buggy alongside his 2WD Buggy & 2WD Short Course for the event. While TLR are set to contest the Worlds with a new 4WD chassis in limited numbers for their key team drivers, Evans will contest the Clash with his now classic XXX-4. TLR team-manager Keven Gahan is also racing in the event, this being his first ever Clash, but when asked about the subject of the new 4WD Buggy he did an excellent job of towing company lines and letting nothing out of the bag.

Coming right in time for Christmas is Kyosho’s Ultima RB6 ReadySet 2WD electric buggy. Based around the full-breed competition vehicle the ready-to-run buggy will feature an anodised aluminium chassis, big bore composite shock absorbers, and a mid or rear motor convertible gear box. The ReadySet variant comes as rear motor car for better all-round drivability and included with the buggy is a 2.4GHz radio system, KS201 high response steering servo and a genuine Team Orion brushless motor and controller combo in the form of the Neon One 2700kv motor and Vortex R10 Sport controller.

Available soon from Serpent is a new line of dedicated nitro and electric tools along redesigned standard tools and wrenches. All feature lightweight orange anodised aluminium handles that are of a new design that prevents them from rolling off your pit table. Engraved size markings help with identification while the hardened tool tips are precision machined to size. The line will include all of the important metric sizes and tool tip designs including 1.5mm to 3.0mm hex and ball hex wrenches, flat and Phillips screw drivers and 5.0mm to 7.0mm nut drivers. Also coming are 3mm, 4mm and 5mm turnbuckles wrenches, a body reamer and exhaust spring remover. The whole line-up is rounded out by Glowplug and flywheel wrenches. All item will become available separately or as dedicated on-road GP, off-road or EP set in a handy tool bag.

Xray introduce their all-new XT9 nitro competition truggy kit. Making use of the winning pedigree of the long-running XT8 platform the new truck features many design elements known from the XB9 buggy combining them to the soon-to-be-released XT9. The truck is based on a newly designed 3mm 7075-T6 aluminium chassis that features a new weight distribution and accommodates a repositioned centre differential. Machined pockets underneath the fuel tank, engine and diffs reduce the weight to a minimum without sacrificing overall rigidity. A redesigned radio compartment sees the receiver battery box for straight-pack LiXX and NiXX batteries in a forward position beside the steering servo while the receiver box is located opposite of the engine.

The first ever International Romanian Nitro Cup for 1/8th and 1/1oth on-road classes will take place on the weekend of the 22nd of September at the newly built Hobby Arena track in Frumusani near Bucharest. World-famous Scotty Ernst already confirmed his participation as did pilots from five different countries including Michael Salven who will presenting a nearly complete collection of Serpent’s racing cars going back to the 1970’s. The 2nd KM World Cup & ZAC Cup took place at this year’s IFMAR 1/8th nitro on-road track in Japan with drivers from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, England, Finland, Italy and Holland attending. Free practice for all drivers took place on Friday, a chance most drivers and teams made use of especially since some new cars where in attendance such as the KM K8 prototype and Hot Bodies’ upcoming R8 kit. Saturday’s qualifying was dominated by Meen V. who put himself on top of the 1/10th 200mm class with Jilled Groskamp controlling the 1/8th class. Sunday morning had the final round of qualifiers and while nearly all of Japan was affected by a big storm the Tokyo area had scorching hot temperatures with the track surface reaching near 50°C. After qualifying Meen V. took the overall TQ in 1/10th while the 1/8th class had Yokoyama taking TQ.

The region’s top 1/8-scale racers converged in Chico, California for A Main Hobbies’ Silver Dollar RC Raceway to race at the Annual Labor Day Shootout. The Silver Dollar track, which just hosted the ROAR 1/10-scale Off-Road Nationals a few weeks ago was completely rebuilt to give 1/8-scale racers all the space they needed to get massive air time and scream down the long straightaway. The Silver Dollar surface grooved up after fuel and rubber was put down giving racers plenty of traction. In the Pro Buggy class longtime racer, and A Main Hobbies’ team manager Marty Korn managed to take the top qualifying honours. He and fellow A Main Hobbies’ racer Austin Blair, as well as TLR’s Philip Atondo all took turns grabbing a TQ round. Korn’s two TQ rounds put him first on the grid for the main event. In the 45-minute A-main, Korn and Atondo would get out front and set a faster pace. Both drivers were running 9-plus minute pit stops, which enabled them to gap the rest of the field. Atondo kept it close the majority of the race, but Korn was able to shake the pressure and pull out the victory.
