Mikael Fransson wins 2013 1/8th Nordic Championship

Mikael Fransson wins 2013 1/8th Nordic Championship

Last weekend the Nordic Championship 1:8 Track took place at Hverven Raceway just outside Oslo in Norway. The track hosted the European Championship back in 2003 and is placed with a beautiful view over the Oslo fjord. We had perfect conditions for practice on Friday and the track was super fast. Saturday came with a clear blue sky and sun throughout the whole day. As the weather forecast predicted rain on Sunday we decided to run the entire event on one day, this is possible in the land of the midnight sun. A new time scheme was made with 3 qualification rounds and all finals, with the last final run at 21:30.

Reds Racing Three 2.0 clutch system

Reds Racing Three 2.0 clutch system

Reds Racing have announced a new update for their 3 shoes ‘one touch’ effortless clutch system, called Reds Three 2.0. The development of the new version has affected the clutch shoes 7075 T6 which have been completely redesigned in order to improve the engine performance at low RPM and increase clutch life. The new shoes are shorter, lighter and designed for engagement during the entire shoe stroke and are less sensitive to wear and as such life time is increased. The clutch engages at higher RPM range, resulting in more controllable power during acceleration, while still maintaining good handling and performance on jumps. The clutch can be adjusted thanks to the traditional combination of different springs and shoes. Three different types of springs are available, with a diameter of 0.9 – 1.0 – 1.1 mm, and two different types of shoes, the traditional aluminium 7075 shoes and the optional ones in carbon.

On the Grapevine – Traiskirchen

On the Grapevine - Traiskirchen

Last weekend I traveled to Austria where the Yokomo Euro Touring Series set down at the unique Traiskirchen track for the penultimate round of the world famous championship with a great air of anticipation & excitement as four of the best drivers in the business came to town with a chance of making the title fight go to next month’s season finale at the Hudy Arena in Slovakia. While the series has established itself as a must do event for the world’s best drivers and manufacturers, an incident packed Leg 2 of the A-Main highlighted just how important an ETS win has become to the drivers. The most fraught 5-minutes of racing in the series’ six seasons of existence, the outbreak of raw emotions that ensued following four key incidents, while not a great advert for our sport, showed the intensity at which these guys perform. While the faces of the involved drivers after Leg 2 sent out a clear message that myself & my white notebook would be best off leaving them alone, I think the tension clearly showed these are not just guys ‘playing with toy cars’ but competitive sportsmen who have a passion for what they are doing. Don’t get me wrong I would not like this to become a regular occurrence but like any sport when there is a bit of drama it does create some extra buzz. I am glad to report that come the prize giving the drivers were exchanging hand shakes and admitting that things said in the heat of the moment where just that. Ultimately Marc Rheinard took the win in Austria from Ronald Volker to set the stage for a thrilling show down to the 2012/13 ETS between the two great German rivals.

Last weekend the second round of the Swedish cup was held at Örebro RBC a small dirt track which only had two jumps. In the first Qualifying round Niclas Maansson was fastest, in Q2 it was Otto Ausfelt, Q3 Lars Hägerman and Q4 Niclas Maansson a result which gave Niclas the TQ honor. Niclas won both A1 and A2 and to complete a perfect day. Sunday started out better than Saturday and Niclas was fastest in practice. Had TQ in the first and second qualifier, Christer Carlsson took a new TQ in the third, but Niclas upped his pace and put in a new TQ in the forth qualifier. Vogl & Nähr victorious in Southern Germany Rd3

Vogl & Nähr victorious in Southern Germany Rd3

The 3rd round of the South German Championship in Türkheim saw a clean sweep for Team Shepherd with victories in all three classes. In 1/8 class 2 it was young Shepherd driver Max Günther taking the win while Maxi Vogl won the 1/8 class 1 with Patrick Nähr completing the perfect result by winning the 1/10 touring class. In the south of Germany the 1/8 classes are raced together so the main final was a mix of class 1 and class 2 drivers. Starting from the pole-position after he won his semi-final Maxi immediately took control of the race and pulled away followed by Armin Baier and Bastian Gramlich. At the 20 min mark it was time for some fresh outside tyres for Maxi, while the rest of the field chose to finish the race with one set. Although Maxi retained the lead the gap was closer after the tyre change and due to Maxi’s engine getting a little bit rich the final minutes saw some close racing with Armin Baier and Bastian Gramlich trying to catch up. Maxi stayed calm and crossed the finishing line in first position about 2 sec in front of Armin Baier with Bastian Gramlich completing the podium.
