Bumod GP – Serpent 7XX first photo

Serpent 7xx radio tray

Red RC are at the rain affected Bumod GP in Bursa, Turkey and we were given an in depth look at the new Serpent 7xx 1/10th scale 200mm chassis. While we were able to take photos of the car, Serpent have asked us not to show them until a later time, allowing us only a photo of the bottom of the radio tray, just one of the very nice features of this well thought out car. Other new items at the event, that has attracted international racers from as far afield as Thailand and the USA, is a new Audi 200mm shell from German brand Orcan promising lots of steering and stability through the corners. Racing will begin as soon as the weather clears up, which looks to happen later this evening, given the racers a chance to run under the flood lights at the fabulous facility.

Serpent test new 1:10 200mm car

serpent7xx11

Serpent confirmed that they have a new 1:10 nitro touring car on the way and have released some information about the successor of their 720.  On Wednesday professional Dutch driver Jilles Groskamp tested the car which is currently being referred to as the 7XX at the MACH track in the Netherlands.  Also on hand for the test was the car’s chief designer Michael Salven, who we understand recently tested the car himself in Asia. Serpent say the 7XX is a completely new concept and uses only the 2-speed, Centax clutch and RCC shocks from the previous model and test-results are very good with only minor modifications being required to the prototype.  The aim of Salven with the new car is to focus more than ever on a user-friendly design, ease of assembly, maintenance and set-up, and a wider sweet spot.  The 7XX will undergo more rigorous and intensive testing in various parts of the world, by Serpent’s team drivers like Green, Mazzeo, Apolaro, Morganti, Sahashi and Groskamp, but also by a number national level drivers for whom Serpent say their feedback is just as important!   Serpent plan to officially unveil their new car in 2 months time and are confident that it will be as well received as their latest 1:8 chassis the 966. Red RC have heard that the 7XX will make its race debut at the up coming Bumod Grand Prix with Groskamp and Apolaro set to use the Turkish event to get race mileage on the current prototype chassis.

We brought you the very first pictures of the prototype of the new G4II from Team Magic back at the toy fair in February and since then the car has evolved to something that looks like its close to being released. Dario Balestri, current European Champion, and Team Magic’s development driver, was in touch to let us know about the short video above that shows him testing at the Gubbio track in Italy, host of this summer’s European Championships. As you can see from the footage, the car handles really well and can easily cope with all that power that is coming his Novarossi engine.

Serpent have released the full details on their new 1/8th scale chassis, the 966. As we know from previous releases, and from our coverage at the toy fair, the car sports a most alloy rear end for precise alignment of everything and most of the changes focus around this area. The car also of course has a new chassis plate to cater for the new rear end, as well as new braking system which sees the mechanism as low as possible in the car, as well as other small improvements including updated RCC shock absorbers.

capricorncar-1

When we wrote our story about the two new entrants into the 1/10th scale 200mm market, if we had of waited another week we could have added a third, with the news today that Italian company Capricorn RC will begin producing a chassis for this class. The car features some other new features such as lightweight spur gears, a wire front anti-roll bar instead of the usual wishbone lever system, new front belt tensioner system, a hexagonal rear belt tensioner and new innovative plastic materials used for the arms and hubs. We don’t have a date for its release, only that its coming soon.
