Honigl & Trauner win Vienna Winter Champs

Honigl & Trauner win Vienna Winter Champs

The Vienna Off road Winter Champs were run last weekend by RC Carpet Fun at the Arena Nova in Vienna and the event attracted 117 racers over 4 classes, 2wd, 4wd, truck and 1/18th buggy. In the 4wd class it was multiple European Champion and Tamiya team driver Hupo Honigl that took the top qualifier spot with his new 511X. In the race, the Austrian had an easy leg 1 win, but finished 2nd in leg 2 to setup a last leg battle between himself and Peter Pinisch, but Honigl was able to come through to win the final leg and overall title, with Pinisch taking the runner up spot, while German racer Bernhard Bachmann took 3rd overall. In 2wd it was a clean sheet for Rene Trauner who took the TQ spot and then won the first two A-mains to secure the overall with one leg left to run. Hupo took the win in the 3rd leg, but 2 bad runs in leg 1 and 2 meant he was out of contention and so Roli Hauleitner took 2nd and Peter Pinisch 3rd. The truck class was won by Roli Hauleitner, with Kreil Martin 2nd  and Peter Wirthner 3rd, while in the 1/18th class Hupo Honigl won from Oli Holczer in 2nd and Andreas Knott 3rd.

Landfill Raceway Championship Rd1

Landfill Raceway Championship Rd1

Landfill Raceway is the biggest off-road track in the Caribbean and recently received a huge makeover with better jumps and more banking on the corners and so far this facility is a state of the art off-road track with great night lights, huge covered driver stand, covered pit space and a concrete pit lane are just some of the features. Last weekend was the first race of the Landfill Raceway Championship and it attracted more than 60 entries in both Buggy and Truggy classes. In the 45 minute long Buggy final it was a battle from the start with TQ Juan Torres and Eliud Hernadez battling it out for about 10 minutes until both cars hit mechanical problems allowing n-road Mugen Team Driver Andy Báez to take the win in the end by a lap from his recovering teammate Juan Torre, while Losi driver Manuel Vázquez took 3rd position having bumped up from the B Main. In the Truggy class Miguel Cotto driving a Losi took the TQ and win followed by José Rodríguez in 2nd position and Jaime Negrón in third, with his Associated.

Team Mirage win 2009 EBOR 24hr race

Our friends at oOple are reporting that Team Mirage / HPI won at the 2009 EBOR 24 hour race held at the York Off Road Car Club over the weekend. The grueling 24 hours of solid racing took their toll on the competitors but all teams finished with HPI out front after a bad start. The Asoociate Team snatched second by just 3 laps after a battle with the unlucky Nor-Trak-Macher-Tech team who themselves had led the race for a long time.

JR Mitch moves to Reedy Engines

Debuting at the recent CRCRC Winter Midwest Championship, Team Associated factory driver JR Mitch will utilize the Reedy 121 VR engine in his RC8 and RC8T for 2009.  JR races out of Florida and is one of the fastest drivers in his region and as a former ROAR National finalist, IFMAR World’s semi-finalist and Florida State Off road Series champion, JR brings great results and promotional value to the Reedy engine line. When asked about the switch, JR had this to say.

I’ve worked together with OS promoting and running their products for just over the last year. It’s a difficult move but I’m looking forward to my new venture with Reedy. Thank you to John Stokes and Scott Cramer for their support; I greatly appreciate all that you have done.  With Reedy I look forward to working Richard Saxton, Ryan Maifield and the whole team in 2009.

Tebo does Nitro Double at CRCRC

Tebo does Nitro Double at CRCRC

We reported on his success in the electric classes at the CRCRC facility in Columbus, OH last weekend, but Jared Tebo dominated  both the 1/8 nitro buggy and truggy classes as well. In fact, his performance was so strong that Tebo won seven of the eight qualifiers to secure TQ in both classes, just missing a perfect sweep of all eight rounds by less than 1.6 seconds in one of the truggy rounds. Tebo continued his domination during the finals, pulling away to a comfortable lead and an eventual win in the 1/8 buggy class. Establishing a comfortable lead in the 1/8 truggy class wasn’t as easy, as Tebo traded the lead a few times in the first half of the event. But, after the halfway point, Tebo took the lead with his ST-RR for the final time and held it to the end.
