Ben Sterling wins 2WD Modified at Wodonga Cup 2013

Ben Sterling wins 2WD Modified at Wodonga Cup 2013

The 2013 Wodonga Cup took place in Wodonga, Victoria and it was Kyosho’s Ben Sterling who TQ’d two out of three qualifiers to take overall TQ for the finals. After scoring a win in the first final and having a nightmare run in leg number two Ben had to win in the decisive final in order to take the overall win for the day. On the tone Ben started off well but coming a little sideways and onto the grass later on allowed Glen to take the lead that only last for a couple of laps until he came wide onto the main straight allowing Ben to take the lead again. He then held Glen off again for 3 laps until Ben made a mistake after the triple and Glen made a move up in the inside. With 2 laps to go Glen got crossed up coming off the back sweeper and Ben made the move. The last lap Glen pressured Ben hard, at this point the Kyosho driver was just driving really defensively. Glen tried to make a move on the inside of Ben off the little double in the middle of the track but hit the curb and flipped. This gave Ben some breathing room and he just finished off the lap conservatively to take the overall win.

Karstens wins Mod Truck at Hobby Haven Shootout

Karstens wins Mod Truck at Hobby Haven Shootout

The annual Hobby Haven Offroad Shootout has been around for over a decade and has become one of the largest off-road races in the Midwest. This year the organisers capped the entries at 250 and the race filled up on rcsignup.com 4 weeks before the event date. After qualifying a huge thunderstorm rolled through the area Saturday night and when the drivers showed up at the track Sunday morning many were very sceptical that their cars would even touch the track. After some serious work from a few of the locals, the track was starting to come around. With the delay from the wet track all the racers took a vote and decided to skip the triple A-mains and go with single mains to speed up the day. JConcepts Chad Karstens (Team Associated) was in third place the first couple of laps in the Modified Truck A main with Fellow JConcepts drivers Cole Tollard and Rod Rippee (both Team Associated) were first and second but Cole got a little sideways going into a rhythm section. Chad was able to squeeze the throttle and move to the outside passing both Cole and Rod at the same time. He then built a 2 to 3 second lead and was able to hold that gap for the rest of the race taking the win. Cole finished second and Rod came in third.

In the Nitro Buggy class Kyosho’s Cody King took TQ and he had to battle hard with Team Durango’s Ryan Lutz for the win. With Ryan in second the Buggy podium was completed by Chad Parks (Team Associated). In the Nitro Truggy class it was again Cody who took the TQ and winning honours. Ryan Lutz (Team Durango) came in second and Zach Phillips (Kyosho) rounded out the podium.
