Irish Nationals Rd3 win for Michael Todd

Irish Nationals Rd3 win for Michael Todd

The third round of the Irish 1:8 Off Road National Championships traveled to Northern Ireland over the weekend as the BADMCC hosted the first of two championship visits to their huge track. In Qualifying it was a familiar name at the top of the time sheets as Losi driver Michael Todd was Top Qualifier for the third time in succession. Lining up behind the defending Champion on the grid continuing his impressive graduation from the Truggy class was youngster Christopher McCauley, the Xray driver separating the joint championship leaders as Navan winner Mark Harron secured 3rd. Before the start of the 45-minute final there was drama for the pole sitter as he hit electrical problems just as the cars went on to the track for their warm-up. Forced to call time, Todd would have to start from the back of the grid but he would quickly work his way through the field to lock into a thrilling battle with Harron’s Hot Bodies. Battling nose to tail and separated by less than a second for much of the race the pair swapped the lead until Harron made two costly mistakes in the final five minutes which gave Todd the break he needed to go on and claim his second win of the season. Having come through from the B Final Xray driver Alan Scroggie enjoyed a great race to join Todd and Harron on the podium. In the Truggy class Top Qualifier Neil Irwin backed up his Galway win to head home Round 1 winner Arron Vance with Steven McClements completing the podium in the half hour final.

Last weekend saw the second leg of the Austrian 1/8th Off road championships at the A-Team Graz race track. The first leg 2 weeks prior could not be run, because of a overflooded race track at MARC Exklusiv in Kirschschlag. Also last weekend the weather situation was changing several times between sunshine and rain, but good track preparation made the event possible. After qualifying it was Hupo Honigl on pole for Durango, with Kyosho driver Martin Karner in 2nd and Mugen racer Christian Payer in 3rd.

Peter Harder wins Rd2 in Denmark

Peter Harder wins Rd2 in Denmark

This weekend saw the second round of the Danish 1/8th off road Nationals take place at the tight and technical SOS track, south of Copenhagen. The weather forecast showed a lot of rain, but qualification was dry and due to a new and tight time schedule, that saw a 30 minutes final instead of the normal 45 minute one, it could have been worse. When the final stopped more heavy rain started. In the final Peter Harder picked up where he left off in round 1 by taking the win with his Novarossi powered Xray ahead of Martin Hansen for Kyosho in 2nd and Tim Culmsee with a HongNor in 3rd.

BRCC get permanent indoor track in Charleroi

BRCC get permanent indoor track in Charleroi

Belgian electro Off-road racing club BRCC have announced that they now have a permanent indoor track in Charleroi, Lodelinsart. Jean-Paul Voumart and his BRCC-crew have been the organising force behind the well-known EIR-races and also recently a 24 hour Endurance race. Having previously rented the venue for certain weekends, the track would always have to be rebuilt each weekend, but now they have exclusive use of the venue so the astroturf will remain down permanently and although they currently have a good layout, it can be changed, as the astroturf-mat covers the complete track-surface. Plans are underway that will see the BRCC again organising the BRCC Winter Trophy and of course future EIR-races & Belgian Nationals and drivers will be able to train on the permanent indoor astroturf track in between races.

Qualifying saw Losi/Novarossi driver Yannick Aigoin take the top spot followed by Xray/RB driver Jerome Sartel in 2nd and championship leader Jerome Aigoin with his Kyosho/Novarossi in 3rd. A disaster for Jerome Aigoin in the semi final meant he wouldn’t take part in the final, while Yannick and Sartel both won their Semi finals. With Yannick starting from the pole position, he romped ahead to win the hour long race by 2 laps ahead of Sartel in 2nd, with Mugen/Novarossi driver Guillaume Vray claiming 3rd, 11 seconds further back.
