Suruth & Lee win Singapore Invitational Challenge

The weekend just gone, saw the 2007 running of the Singapore Invitational Challenge, held at the East Coast Park Raceway. The racing was divided into 2 classes with the vast majority of racers running 1/10th scale, however the 1/8th scale class had plenty of top drivers and in qualifying the fastest of those was Mugen driver Meen Vejrak, from Thailand, that took the TQ for this class, while the 1/10th TQ went to Kyosho racer Kelvin Yong. In the 1/8th scale final the pole man Meen ran into some problems that dropped him down the order, leaving Serpent racer Suruth to take the win by 7 laps from Mugen driver Nelson Lee in 2nd, while another Mugen, that of Tay Wui Kiat, was 3rd. Things were a bit closer in the 1/10th scale final, but again there was problems for the pole sitter, Kelvin Yong ending his race in 5th, while Kyosho race Philip Lee took the win by less than a lap from Meen Vejrak in 2nd and Charlee Phutiyotin in 3rd.

Josue Artiles wins 1/10th Spanish Nats Rd3

The 3rd round of the 1/10th 200mm Spanish Nationals was held last weekend at the Madrid track, host of this years European Championships. Qualifying saw Serpent SDD driver Oscar Cabezas take the pole position for the race but at the start of the final he was pushed out causing him to drop 2 laps to have his car repaired. Back on the track and Oscar could work his way back through the field up to 2nd spot just a lap behind eventual winner Josue Artiles, racing for Mugen, while Xray driver Iñaki Pahissa Lopez finished in 3rd.

Andersen wins Norwegian Nats Rd3

Andersen wins Norwegian National Cup Rd3

Xray have a report from the recently held 3rd round of the Norwegian National Cup that was run on a track some 900m above sea level, in the beautiful mountain side in Valdres. Qualifying saw the Xray NT1 trio of Helge Johannessen, Georg Ellingsen and Frank Andersen claim the first 3 spots for the final, with Johannessen setting a new track record on his way to pole position. In the final the top 3 pulled away in their starting order with Johannessen leading until the 15 minute mark when he hit a stopped car, taking him out of the race. This left the fighting pair of Ellingsen and Andersen to battle it out for the lead with Andersen eventually taking the win followed by Ellingsen in 2nd with Anders Theodorsen in 3rd

Daniele Ielasi wins French EFRA GP

The French EFRA GP was held last weekend at the super fast Grenoble track in the South of France, near Lyon. Weather was good for most of the event and on a track that required a fast engine that was not thirsty on fuel it was Kyosho racer, and Picco employee, Daniele Ielasi that took the pole position ahead of Alberto Picco, racing a Mugen, while the final 2 direct qualifiers were Shepherd Velox racer Robert Pietsch in 3rd and French Championship front runner Nicolas Guillot racing for Mugen in 4th. Before the final it start to rain quite heavy and this meant that a number of drivers didnt take the start including Picco, Guillot and Bertin, who ran with a JP motor at this race, and left the other racers struggling to find the best tyres for the changing conditions. After a small rain delay, the event got underway and Ielasi and Pietsch immediately pulled away at the front, leaving the rest of the field to battle for the lower places with the chasing pack being headed by Mugen driver Walter Salemi in 3rd. With 7 minutes to go, Pietsch ran into radio problems which took him out a certain 2nd place and promoted Salemi into the runner spot, which is how it finished, with Ielasi winning by a lap from Salemi in 2nd and Serpent racer Arnaud Chaussard in 3rd.

Tim Wood wins Rd5 of UK 1/8th Nats

Last weekend, under changing weather conditions, saw the 5th round of the BRCA 1/8th scale Nationals run at the Halifax track in the north of England. In qualifiying, and despite rain plaguing the event, everyone managed to get a dry run in which allowed Tim Wood, racing a Serpent 960, to take the pole position spot ahead of 2nd placed James Connolly racing a Kyosho Evolva. In the final, which some drivers decided not to race because of the weather, it was Tim Wood and Mugen racer Andrew North that had a close battle in the early stages but as the track dried Andrew started to drop back, leaving Tim to take the win, 2 laps ahead of 2nd placed Gareth Bell who managed to pass North in the closing stages demoting him to 3rd.

Stéphane Bellity wins Rd4 French EP Nats

Last weekend at the Antibes track in the south of France, saw the 4th round of the French 1/10th 190mm touring car Nationals run under perfect racing conditions. Qualifying saw local Xray driver Stéphane Bellity take the pole position ahead of Schumacher racer Alexandre Laurent in 2nd place, while in the triple A-main it was Bellity that came out the clear winner in the overall results ending his race ahead of Tamiya racer Loic Jasmin in 2nd while 3rd spot fell to Aurélien Thréhout, driving an Xray. In the B class the race was all about Corally racer Olivier Beining who took the TQ spot and went no to take the win from team Michel Berty in 2nd, while Hot Bodies racer Cyril Fages claimed 3rd spot.

Sakke Ahoniemi joins GM-Racing

GM Racing have announced that they have signed former European 1:12 On-road champion and multiple 1:10 Touring car vice European champion, Sakke Ahoniemi. The Corraly team driver will use the companys GM Genius Brushless speedo, GM brushless motors and GM VISCommander battery management system on up-coming races. He had this to say about the deal.

After a couple of months testing with GM brushless motors and speedo, I’m very convinced that GM is the right company to power up my Corally cars for best results. GM Genius Brushless speedo is amazingly good in all areas and GM brushless motors have good power, so I’m looking forward to next races.

Giesa wins 1/10th German North Regionals

Giesa wins 1/10th German North Regionals

Serpent are reporting on the final round of the North German National qualifying race held at the Tuttendorf track in changing conditions. Ralf Krause TQ’d with his Serpent 720 ahead of team-mate Andreas Giesa in 2nd while in the final the pairing enjoyed a superb battle for 1st before Krause lost 2nd gear, which allowed Giesa to storm home for the win. A great drive by Guttschau saw him come home in 2nd positions ensuring a podium double for Serpent, while Hasselbring came home in 3rd.
