Nejc Mihelič wins TopRC Track Masters Rd1

Nejc Mihelič wins TopRC Track Masters Rd1

The first round of TopRC Track Masters 2016 was held in Cervignano, Italy in dry and nice weather all weekend. Nejc Mihelič took the TQ in the 1/8th nitro on-road class following by Jernej Vuga and Herfried Pucher. In the main A final we saw different tyre and pitting strategies among the favourites. Mihelic made an early mistake and had a coming together with another driver, which allowed Vuga to lead by a few seconds over Mihelic and Pucher. Pucher’s strategy to refuel one more time and only change the outside tires came to an end when he had a coming together with another driver. Mihelic did a very fast full tyre change meaning he had to come back from a full lap and a few seconds while Vuga took the risk with no tyre change. Mihelic’s strategy paid off in the last minute by overtaking Vuga. It was Nejc Mihelič (ARC/Picco) who took the win and the best lap of the weekend, closely followed by Vuga and Stefano Restivo.

Thanks to Nejc Mihelič for the report.

Hagberg & Honigl retain European 1/12th titles

The 2016 European Championships in the classic 1/12 pan car class was held at the Hudy Arena, in Trencin, Slovakia last weekend and Alexander Hagberg gave the following report. ‘The race saw a good field of drivers in both modified and stock 13.5T blinky categories, with drivers from 16 different countries in attendance. In the modified class, I managed to set the pace throughout practice, as well as winning 4 out of 6 qualifiers, it meant that I would start first on the grid come Sunday. I was closely followed at times by my team mate Olly Jefferies from the UK, who put his X12 car 2nd on the grid with 1 TQ run and a solid performance throughout qualifying. The young and talented Dionys Stadler, also put in a great TQ run in Q4, and would eventually qualify 4th overall. This meant that the X12 car would TQ every single round of qualifying in modified, with three different drivers fighting for the TQ.

Collari defeats Romagnoli, Redaelli dominates 1/10th

Collari defeats Romagnoli, Redaelli dominates 200mm

It has been an outstanding final day at the 2016 Picco Onroad European Challenge, with the 1/8th A-Main being the perfect icing on the cake for the event. With the TQ Robert Pietsch suffering an issue with a piston pin clip that came out from its groove and forced him out of the fight for the win, it was Lamberto Collari to pick up the lead. The 9-time World Champion Infinity driver took control of the race and mastered his strategy although a late charge from  Michele Romagnoli put a decent amount of pressure on him, the WRC driver deciding to go all-in not coming in for the last splash&go but eventually running out of fuel in the last lap but still finishing second ahead of Carmine Raiola, who rounded up the podium.

Pietsch & Redaelli TQ at Picco Challenge

At the end of the four rounds of qualifiers the overall TQ honours went to Mugen’s designer and factory driver Robert Pietsch, who ended up on a tie with Lamberto Collari but managed to snatch the first spot on the grid from the 9-time World Champion thanks to his Q3 time, two seconds faster than Collari’s Q4 TQ. Looking pleased with his newborn MRX-6 and his Picco engine, Robert was of course happy to be able to start out in front for the A-Main.

Collari overnight TQ at 2016 Picco Challenge

Collari overnight TQ at 2016 Picco Challenge

Finding himself tied at the top of the standing with Alberto Picco after two of the four rounds of qualifying, Lamberto Collari is overnight Top Qualifier at the 2016 Onroad Europe Picco Challenge thanks to a better best time over his arch rival. Only gaining a fifth time in the first round due to his engine being too lean, the Infinity driver then managed to sort things out and TQ’d round 2 edging Shepherd’s Christian Cavicchioli by half a second. Despite feeling a slight understeer in the second half of the round, Lamberto looked pleased with how his package performed and is of course looking forward for the continuation of the race.
