Rheinard new 1:12 World Champion

Marc Rheinard is the new 1:12 World Champion after a stunning recovery drive in the second A-Main of the Florida event saw him take the win and enter the history books as the first driver to hold both a 1:12 and Touring Car World title. Ending the 6-year reign of Naoto Matsukura, the 3-time Touring Car World Champion becomes only the 7th different winner of IFMAR’s longest running electric World Championship and with it brings 1:12 stalwart chassis manufacturer CRC their first World title.

Felix & Vilarinho grab Portuguese Nitro On-road titles

The final round of the Portuguese Nitro On-road Championships was held last weekend. In the 1/8th class Jose Felix took the win in front of Nuno Duraes and Pedro Silva. The win also secured Jose the the overall title in this year’s championship. In the 1/10th 200mm class Franco Vilarinho brought home the day’s win and the overall title with Hugo Mendes and Carlos Manual rounding out the podium of the final round.

Rheinard takes A1 at 1:12 Worlds

Marc Rheinard has won the opening A-Main at the 1:12 World Championships in Florida. Starting from second on the grid, the CRC driver went to the front following an early mistake by Top Qualifier Naoto Matsukura and stayed there to take the 8-minute encounter from Alexander Hagberg and Hideo Kitazawa. Three laps after Rheinard took over the lead, defending champion Matsukura and Hagberg would get together the Japanese driving coming off worst and only able to recover to finish 5th.

Sanwa signs up Hagberg

Sanwa have announced at the 1:12 World Championships in Florida the signing of lead Xray team driver Alexander Hagberg.  A direct factory deal with the famous Japanese radio manufacturer, it will see the Swede use both the company’s radios and servos, his choice of transmitter being the M12.  While Sanwa also produce speedos, the European 1:12 Champion will continue to run ORCA electrics in all his cars. Announcing the deal with Sanwa’s Akimasa Uchida, Hagberg said ‘with my KO contract up I took the opportunity to try all the different radios which included buying a Sanwa which I really liked and its great that we are now able to work together on an official deal’.  Statistics provided by Sanwa show that at the 1:12 Worlds their radio is the most popular choice with a 59% share of the field of which over half are the M12.  The second most popular radio with just shy of a quarter of racer using it is KO Propo with Futaba third with 16% usage.

Mibosport Cup 2014/15 – Announcement

The 2014/15 season of the popular Mibosport Cup Winter Series will kick off on the weekend of the 1st of November in the city of Hrotovice, host of the opening round of the 2014/15 ETS. Attracting 299 drivers in total including the likes of Ronald Völker, Marc Rheinard, Marc Fischer, Martin Bayer and Marek Cerny last year’s series was great success. This year’s series is run in the six classes of Touring Car Modified, Stock LRP, Formula 1, 1/12 and 2WD and 4WD Buggy. More information can be found here.

Danish Touring Car Nationals Rd1 – Report

Round 1 of the Danish Touring Car Indoor Nationals was held in the city of Randers using a purpose built track in a sports hall. The track itself had a nice and flowing layout but the long pile carpet made for some strange car behaviour, low grip and loads of broken ball bearings. During Saturday’s practice Mike Gosvig was able to pull the fastest laps but come race Sunday he started to make some mistakes allowing Patrick Hornum to take the TQ and the pole position for the A-mains.

The last round of the 2014 1/10th Nitro On-road British Nationals was at the Mendip track last weekend. Saturday started out wet and it took until 2pm for the track to dry out. At the end of practice Joe Kerry was fastest in 200mm Touring with a 16.9 second laps, 0.5 seconds quicker than team mates Mark Green and Alex Thurston. Glyn Beal and Andrew Hastings lead the field in 220mm GT.

Matsukura cruises to unchallenged TQ in Florida

Naoto Matsukura has cruised his way to an unchallenged fourth consecutive 1:12 World Championship TQ wrapping up qualifying in Florida early with another fastest run in the fourth of the six scheduled qualifiers. The Yokomo driver was again the only driver to turn 53 laps of the Minnreg Hall making it four from four by taking Q4 from rapid American Donny Lia who set a new track record with an 8.822 lap time. Matsukura’s Yokomo team-mate Masatsugu Ido would complete the Top 3. Such was Matsukura’s pace that over the 8-minutes he ran a full lap more than that of fourth place finisher Hideo Kitazawa.
