In the 1/8th class final, the strongest winning contender, Flavio Elias broke his car after start crash. Cesar Salvadori’s car was hit in the same incident and he ran with a damaged tire the whole race but this did not kept the KM driver from leading only until he crashed with a back marker, resulting in a damage to a steering block on his car. This cost Cesar the 1st place but with 2 minutes to go leader Eduardo Dulac suffered a battery failure on his Shepherd so Salvadori was able to take the lead again to cruise to victory.

Rombouts wins at Dutch 1/10 IC on-road nats Rd3

Rombouts wins at Dutch 1/10 IC on-road nats Rd3

Under perfect weather conditions the 3rd round of the Dutch 1/10 IC on-road  nationals was held at the RACO track in Utrecht in the centre of the Netherlands. The track was constructed in the early 1980’s out of a line flying circle and therefore the main straight is in fact a shallow bend to the left. As the majority of corners is also going left this requires a special car setup in order to get an even tyre wear during the finals. As the track also features a tight infield hairpin to the right, which is hard on brakes, this tricky track requires driving skills as well as set up skills to be successful.

Gubbio introduce a safety bridge system

Gubbio safety bridge system

The Automodellistico 5 Colli club in Gubbio, Italy, host of the 2016 IFMAR 1/10th 200mm World Championships, introduce a new system to maximise the safety for all on-track marshals. With the most dangerous part of a track being the straight in most cases, the club has invented a special rail and carriage system that spans across the straight opposite the pits. The transportation system is activated by the weight of the model and allows for maximum safety and minimum inconvenience for both the racers and marshals as the marshals do not have to cross the front straight anymore in order to bring back a car that stranded in the infield. The system was put into operation at the Hot-Race Tyres Trophy at the end and it was well received by pilots, pit crews and marshals for its speed, small footprint and security guaranteed to the marshals. The system is suitable for 1/10, 1/8 and GT models and is only the first in a series of innovations that will be introduced to the track ahead of the World Champsionships in 2016.
