Andy North to run ARC

Andy North to run ARC

Zen Racing have announced that the 1/8th scale racer Andy North will join the team for the 2016 season. Andy, the current British Open Champion and veteran Mugen driver, will focus on local races this year but he will very likely return to national events soon. Andy had the following to say:

I am very privileged to be asked by Paul and especially David Spashett of Zen Racing to test the ARC 8.0 chassis of which I have accepted to race in the 2016 British racing season. I firstly have to thank Mugen Seiki Europe and especially Stefan for their direct supporting after the Ted Longshaw era of which I have been racing Mugen products for the last 14 years and since the MRX3 incarnation. I am however good friends with David Spashett and Pitman Richard Sheriff on a personal level away from racing which makes this deal even more special to me and a no brainer going forward. This year will also see me become a Dad for the first time in April so my racing will be limited to local races in the short term but I expect to complete the full championship come the end of the year since nitro racing is in my blood. I am very much looking forward to working with all the Zen Racing Team and producing good results.

ARC R11 electric touring car kit

ARC R11 electric touring car kit

Following a first teaser ARC have now officially introduced the R11 1/10th scale 4WD touring car. Based on the experience made with the predecessor R10 2015, the R11 features some subtle changes and revisions in order to further boost performance, drivability and ease of maintenance. The car is based on a 86mm wide carbon fibre chassis that is 4mm wider than the one of the R10 to make for slightly stiffer flex characteristics and improved consistency. To achieve a more centred weight distribution the motor sits 4mm closer to the centre line compared to the previous model. To further centralise the weight the R11 sports new bulkheads that sit a total of 2mm closer to the centre line and the shock towers have been lowered and are now attached by only two screws. Doing away with two fasteners also adds a bit of flex to the bulkhead area in order to help generate more overall grip.

ARC R8.0 2016 1/8th nitro on-road kit

ARC R8.0 2016 1/8th nitro on-road kit

ARC have introduced the R8.0 2016 1/8th nitro on-road kit. Combining all the features of the successful R8.0, the 2016 model includes selected, previously available option parts as well as new features designed to make maintenance easier while improving reliability at the same time. The flex 2-speed bulkheads are now included as standard, they provide more flex in the rear of the chassis resulting in improved rear end traction. Another feature of the flex bulkheads is a 1.5mm higher layshaft position which helps prevent the spur gears from touching the track surface under extreme cornering which can lead to failure. Also included is the drilled and thus vented brake disk that gives a more linear feel as it helps to reduce brake temperature for less brake fading

Avid ARC R10 ’15 aluminium chassis

Avid ARC R10 '15 aluminium chassis

Coming soon from Avid and made for the ARC R10 ’15 touring car is an aluminium main chassis. Cut from 2mm 7075-T6 material and coming black anodised and with silver edge highlights the chassis features unique herringbone cut-outs for a lower weight and optimised flex characteristics. Battery tape on the bottom of the chassis has a cutout slot so it doesn’t interfere with ride height checks or drag on track while the 2mm thickness allows for a lower centre of gravity and the ability to lower roll centres more than stock. The direct replacement 82mm wide chassis is recommended for medium to high-bite conditions.

ARC R8.0E 1/8th electric on-road car

ARC R8.0E 1/8th electric on-road car

Coming soon from ARC is the R8.0E 1/8th scale electric on-road kit. The electrified version of the popular R8.0 nitro car shares more that 80 percent of the parts with its nitro sibling while offering a purpose-designed layout with the drivetrain located between the saddle pack batteries. The chassis allows to use either 2S or 3S hardcase LiPo battery packs which are located as close to the centreline as possible for an improved weight distribution and maximised agility. The layout provides an ultra-low centre of gravity, a 50/50 left-to-right and 48/52 front-to-rear balance. The result is minimised chassis roll to make for better handling and a more balanced driving feel. Tests have shown that dual 2S packs and a 2200kv motor will accelerate the car to speeds of up to 85km/h while dual 3S batteries will propel the R8.0E to speeds of up to 115km/h, exceeding most nitro cars.
