Perez wins Rd3 Brazilian Nationals

Perez wins Rd3 Brazilian Nationals

Serpent are reporting on the 3rd round of the Brazilian Nationals where Ricardo Perez driving a Serpent 720 ’08 took the win. Saturday’s qualifying saw round 2 winner and another Serpent racer Henrique Winik TQ the event ahead of Flavio Elias and Perez. The finals on Sunday, which were held in very hot conditions, saw car no.1 of Winik in top form and he was able to run a lap time below the previous record. Unfortunately engine problems would rule him out of back to back victories, but team-mate Perez took up the lead where he would stay till the end to take the win. This moves him into the lead of the standings and bring him closer to becoming 2008 Brazilian Champion.

Serpent 960 Radio plate support weight

Serpent 960 Radio plate support weight

Also new for the Serpent 960 is this aluminium radio plate support with brass weight. Similar in structure to the previous aluminium bracket, this version has been modified to accept the brass weight and will come as standard in future 960-08 kits. The accompanying brass weight adds 50 grams to very centre of the car and is mounted as low as possible in this area so as not to adversely affect the centre of gravity. Similar in concept to the previously released brass battery holder, this system gives a more neutral handling characteristic than that of the battery holder yet has the same benefits.

Serpent 960 Shock tower RR V3

Serpent 960 Shock tower RR V3

Serpent have announced the release of this new shock tower for the rear of the Serpent 960. Made from 3.5mm thick carbon fibre, the new shock tower features a 2nd, higher mounting hole for the centring pin. This hole allows for the rear body mount to be set at its highest setting, while still being able to be centred. Some new low body shells work best when they are raised at the rear and this new shock tower facilitates that. This part will come as standard in future 960-08 kits.

Serpent S400 Aluminium CVD Shafts

Serpent S400 Aluminium CVD Shafts

New for the Serpent S400 are these anodized aluminium CVD drive shafts. Super lightweight, they are 3 grams lighter than the steel versions, giving a saving of 12 grams when used throughout the car. This weight gain means reduced rotating mass, which translates into faster acceleration and top speeds. Sold in a set of 2, they are suitable for the front and rear of the car, but due to the current power being delivered by modern electronic equipment it is advised to use them only the rear, as when used on the front they may wear quicker than the standard steel versions.

Serpent Centax-3 WC Clutch system

Serpent Centax-3 WC Clutch system

Serpent have introduced a new WC version of their Centax III clutch system and updated 2-speed gearbox system. The updated transmission uses the same pitch as before but has an improved tooth profile, which combined with a wider spur and pinion gear, gives better contact for better durability and power delivery. The steel clutch bell housing has also been updated with the pinions no longer forming the structure of this area but are instead attached the steel threads on the new bell. This ensures that the gears spin true and are much more resistant to any flexing in this area. As a result of this new bell, the front 2 bearings in the clutch have been changed and are now smaller in diameter compared to previous versions. The new WC transmission cannot be used together with the original spurs or pinion gears. A full range of spur gears (54T-56T, 59T-61T) and pinions (16T-18T, 21T-23T) are available separately.
