BRCA Formula National Championship Rd3 – Report

Round three of the BRCA 1/10th Formula National Championship was held at the Aldershot track this past weekend. Andy Murray and Ben Cosgrove, the latter being hindered by not be able to show up for Saturday’s practice rounds, battled it out for the overall TQ in qualifying. Ultimately it was Ben with the TQ and pole position thanks to winning the tie-breaker. In the opening A-main Ben made a mistake about three laps in running too low and rolling mid sweeper dropping him back to 4th. He managed to catch and pass Luke Lee in the sweeper the next lap and then Andy and James Wright were tangled together when Cosgrove arrived at the next corner. From then on Ben backed off and took a relaxed leg win. Leg 2 then was a very simple race from the front with a controlled pace so Ben Cosgrove (Xray) took the leg win and with it the overall with Luke Lee (Xray) and Stephen Lander (Capricorn) coming in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Caroli & Laubscher win at SA 12th Nats Rd3

The third round of the 2018 South-African ORE 1/12th National Championship series was held at the Welkom RC Arena. In the 1/12 Modified class and after missing round 2 due to his host responsibilities at the pre-worlds, local Xray driver Antonio Caroli showed good early pace during practice with Marius van Niekerk, Shaun Schutte, Willie du Plooy and Wayne Joelson also running good fast laps. Ultimately it was Antonio Caroli who managed to secure TQ with Marius van Niekerk and Willie du Plooy starting from 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Mibosport Summer Race – Report

The Mibosport Summer Race was held this past weekend in Blansko with 43 entries for the four classes of Touring Modified, Stock LRP, Formula, Hobby and a Nitro class. The Touring Modified class was held in a Reedy-style system. During all six rounds it was a battle for the overall victory between Michal Bok, Radek Flek and Matěj Šulc. In the end Michal Bok was able to take the day’s win with Matěj and Radek in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

Maifield, Tessmann & Cavalieri win at Manufacturers Cup

The Amain Hobbies Manufacturers Cup was hosted by Silver Dollar Raceway in Chico, California over the weekend with some of the fastest U.S. racers making their entry to race in the usual array of 1/8th off-road classes. The Manufacturers Cup is always an exciting race that carries a different format much similar to the Reedy Race of Champions, where the Pro drivers compete in a series of heads-up racing and awarded points after finishing results for each round. The lowest point total taken from 3 of the 4 rounds decides the overall finishing order making each round an all-out race rather. Ryan Maifield was on another level in the Pro Nitro Buggy class as he delivered a perfect performance going 4 for 4 to win all rounds and took the overall without question. The Mugen ace was on top of the tire program selecting the right tire at the right time and got good starts to work his way up to the front. Once in the lead, Maifield put it in overdrive and secured his flawless weekend in Nitro Buggy with some amazing driving. Xray’s Ty Tessman secured 2 wins and locked up 2nd as Kyosho’s Jared Tebo finished on the podium in 3rd.

Joe Bornhorst trifecta at Horizon RC Fest

The Horizon RC Fest was held this last weekend in Monticello, Illinois this past weekend with he event caring about everything radio controlled including planes, drones and cars. As part of the festivities Horizon Hobby held their TLR Cup for 1/8th scale off-road classes and it was Tekno RC’s Joe Bornhorst who would sweep the Pro Buggy, Truggy and E-Buggy classes. Pro Buggy and Truggy were TQ’ed by TLR’s Dakotah Phend, using what appear to be prototype 8ight 5.0 and 8ight-T 5.0 vehicles, however Bornhorst would ultimately walk away with the wins in Pro Buggy, Truggy and E-Buggy to round out a perfect weekend.

Andrew Shapland wins at Pro10 Winter Series

The first round of the Australian Pro Amps Hobbywing Pro10 Winter Series was held at England Park Raceway this past weekend. The TQ went to Jeff Hamon with 18 laps 5:14.376 as well as a new lap record of 16.359 but after the A-mains it was Andrew Shapland on the 1st spot from Clayton Hughes 2nd. Top qualifier, Jeff Hamon had to settle for 3rd overall. The second round will be held on the 30th of June.

Scorpion to power the OneTen series

The organisers of the 2018/19 OneTen Series presented by Infinity are extremely pleased to announce Scorpion Power System as the official supplier of handout motors for the Stock class. This highly competitive class will be run with identical 13.5T motors from this well respected Hong Kong based brand, joining other well known race series around the World such as the ETS to run the famous gold and black power plants. The OneTen series kicks off on in Shanghai at RCI V2 on October 6-7 before going to Hong Kong in December for round 2, then on to Guangzhou in January for round 3 and ending back in Hong Kong in March. Scorpion handout motors will be available at each event with each entrant to the Stock class receiving one with their first entry.

Patrick Hofer wins 2WD class at Swiss Buggy Nats Rd3

The third round of the Swiss 1/10th Electric Off-road Nationals was held in Dielsdorf over the weekend. In the 2WD Modified Buggy class, that attracted a total of 26 drivers, it was Team Associated’s Patrick Hofer who would make a clean sweep by coming out fastest in practice while also winning the qualifiers and A-mains for the overall victory from the Xray duo of Nico Schmid and Florian Schmid in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Over in the 4WD Mod Buggy class, that suffered from a sub-standard entry of only ten cars, it was Florian Schmid with the win from Fabian Luca Widmer in 2nd and Philip Jeisy in 3rd.
