JCSTyler Jones wins E-Buggy class at JC Spring NationalspringNatsEBuggy

The HobbyPlex in Omaha, Nebraska held the 7th annual JConcepts 1:8 Spring Nationals over Memorial Day weekend. As the Plex has changed adding a building over the race track five years ago, the event has been a popular stop for the area Nitro racers to get their first taste of the season for a larger event. The usual suspects of the regional fast guys showed up on Friday to get some laps on the fresh layout built by Alex Sturgeon and crew. Saturday would show three rounds of qualifying using best two out of three to seed you into Sunday’s main events with bump ups from the lower mains. With all of the rounds completed Minnesota’s Seth VanDalen (Tekno) would come out fastest in Expert E-Buggy. The A-mains would be a triple affair with VanDalen taking round 1. Indiana’s Tyler Jones would get comfortable at the front with his Team Associated buggy and take the wins in A2 and A3 to get the overall followed by VanDalen and the bump up king of the weekend Hunter Holmberg and his TLR.

Delorme & Voisangrin win at French On-road Nats Rd3

Delorme & Voisangrin win at French On-road Nats Rd3

The recent third round of the French Electric On-road Nationals was held at the Ampuis track with 77 entries for the four classes of Touring Modified, Touring 10.5T, Touring 13.5T and Formula 21.5T. Saturday started out with hot and dry weather and in Touring 10.5T is was Pierre Delorme who set the pace with Alexandre Duchet hot on his heels. As predicted the weather turned to the worst on Sunday and so the remaining qualifiers were held in wet conditions. The opening two A-mains of the 10.5T class then saw Pierre taking pretty easy wins in front of brother Jean, who started from the 7 spot and had pretty good runs. In the final A-main, on a drying track, things became complicated in terms of tyre choice with Jean making the right decision to run Volante tyres and he was able to bring home the win with a tight gap on Alexandre. Overall Pierre came out successful in the main from Jean and Alexandre in second and third respectively.

2016 AKA Catapult GP – Report

2016 AKA Catapult GP – Report

The recent AKA GP was back again at HNMC, one of the UK’s leading dirt tracks and venue. The controlled tyre debate could roll on day and night but with all drivers on the same pattern it did lead to closer racing and driver ability would show through. As usual the club had put in a lot of effort to get the track ready for this event and it was well received. The event plan was to give drivers maximum track time and so four rounds of practice, seven rounds of qualifying and 30 minute lower finals with a 45 minute main would be held. All four rounds of controlled practice went to Jamie Clancy with Jack Embling second in each Nitro Buggy round while in E-Buggy three rounds went to Jack Embling and Claus Didriksen from Norway taking round 1.

3rd Reedy Race of Champions title for Volker

3rd Reedy Race of Champion title for Volker

Ronald Volker is the 2016 Reedy Race Champion, the Yokomo driver securing the title at the iconic touring car race for a third time as the tie breaker was required to give him the victory over Christopher Krapp.  The 19th running of Mike Reedy’s unique heads up racing format, it would end up an all German podium at Tamiya Raceway with outgoing champion Marc Rheinard completing the Top 3 in California.  While Volker would effectively lay claim to the famous Reedy Race trophy with a 2nd in the penultimate round of racing, there was still a mathematical chance that a 26-lap winning time from Krapp could secure the Tamiya driver the overall victory.  Krapp would deliver the win but couldn’t manage the required time confirming Volker as the new champion before the 2009 & 14 Champion completed his 12th & final race out of which he would spectacularly crash after a coming together with Rheinard.  The best non-European finisher would be Japan’s Akio Sobue who finished 4th ahead of the Ryan Cavalieri who upheld the host nations honours.

Alexandre Laurent wins at French EP On-road Nats Rd3

Alexandre Laurent wins at French EP On-road Nats Rd3

The third round of the French Electric On-road National Championship was held at the fast and flowing Ampuis track. In the Touring Modified class Thomas Vigneron dominated the free and controlled practice sessions on Friday and Saturday. But come the qualifiers the Team Magic driver ran into trouble with problems such as badly glued pre-mounted tyres and later a wrong tyre strategy, starting on old tyres while others used a fresh set. On Sunday though he was able to score two TQ runs in wet conditions to grab the pole position for the A-mains. For the finals the conditions got worse and the TQ holder ran into trouble with wrong setup decisions, allowing Alexandre Laurent (Xray) to take the win from runner-up, Thomas. Maxime Favrelle (Xray) would round out the podium in third.
