Daniel Brown takes Norcal Hobbies Sunday Race Series

Norcal Hobbies recently wrapped up their Sunday Race Series. This series consisted of 5 race days with one track change in between and the best 4 results count. Daniel Brown completed the championship with an overall win in the 2WD Modified Buggy and Modified Truck class. Each Sunday race consisted of 2 qualifiers and double A-mains and Daniel was able to secure a perfect score and the series win in both of his classes leaving local talents such as Cody Hughey, Ryan Sagisi, Fabian Fernandez, Brian Gross, Charley Ross, and Sean Butler behind.

Daniel Brown wins Mod Truck at Top Gun Challenge

This past weekend Norcal Hobbies in San Jose California wrapped up the 5th Annual Top Gun Race. This race attracts top drivers from Northern California, all attempting to earn the title of “Top Gun” of their respective class. Along with bragging rights, top drivers in each class earns themselves an authentic Fighter Jet Helmet. The program consisted of 4 rounds of qualifying and triple A-mains on Sunday. In the final round of qualifying Daniel Brown, who missed the first day of qualifying, secured the TQ in the Mod Truck class over Norcal local Brian Gross by 4 seconds. In A1 Daniel pulled a 5 second lead early on and was able to maintain the gap throughout. While Gross was running similar lap times he was not able to pull within striking distance. In A2 Daniel was able to pull a significant gap in the first few laps letting the rest of field battle it out for second.

Schumacher Masters Rd1 – Report

This past weekend was the start of the hugely successful Schumacher Indoor Masters Series, a great entry of almost 130 meant that the racers were once again keen to get back racing indoors in the dry at the awesome Worksop venue. In 2WD it was very close all day, going into the last heat of qualifying any one of four drivers could still take the pole position on the grid for the start of the A-final. After all of the racing action the A-final 2WD result saw Simon Moss taking the win from Richard Lowe and James Helliwell.

Rheinard takes A1 at 1:12 Worlds

Marc Rheinard has won the opening A-Main at the 1:12 World Championships in Florida. Starting from second on the grid, the CRC driver went to the front following an early mistake by Top Qualifier Naoto Matsukura and stayed there to take the 8-minute encounter from Alexander Hagberg and Hideo Kitazawa. Three laps after Rheinard took over the lead, defending champion Matsukura and Hagberg would get together the Japanese driving coming off worst and only able to recover to finish 5th.

Hagberg tops final qualifier

Having set the pace in practice and then struggled in early qualifying Alexander Hagberg finally returned to form to take the 6th & final round of qualifying at the 1:12 World Championship in Florida. Posting the fastest 8-minute run of the event, the Xray driver just missed out on a 55-lap run by 1/10th of a second as he topped the time sheets by 2-seconds from Donny Lia. Having sat 7th in the overnight standings the TQ run will see the Swede start the A-Main from 4th on the grd behind Lia, Marc Rheinard and Top Qualifier Naoto Matsukura. Posting his best qualifier, Jilles Groskamp would ran the third fastest time of Q6 to go from sitting 21st overnight to securing his 6th consecutive 1:12 World Championship A-Main appearance, the 2012 podium finisher set to start 7th.

Patrick Hofer takes 11th Swiss championship title

Team Associated’s Patrick Hofer successfully ended his campaign in this year’s Swiss 1/10th Buggy Championship by taking the 2WD and 4WD Buggy class titles. Patrick won all rounds this season on his way to grab his 11th Swiss Championship title in a row.

Steven Hartson wins Mod Truck at Reedy Truck Race

The 2014 Reedy Truck Race of Champions was hosted by Hot Rod Hobbies and Raceway located in Southern California with the truck-only event bringing out the best competition for Short Course and Stadium Truck racers of all ages at a two day event. In Modified Truck Steve Hartson and Kevin Motter went 1-2 while in Modified 2WD Short Course, Kevin and Steven were also on the podium finishing 2nd and 3rd behind Cody Turner.

Sanwa signs up Hagberg

Sanwa signs up Hagberg

Sanwa have announced at the 1:12 World Championships in Florida the signing of lead Xray team driver Alexander Hagberg.  A direct factory deal with the famous Japanese radio manufacturer, it will see the Swede use both the company’s radios and servos, his choice of transmitter being the M12.  While Sanwa also produce speedos, the European 1:12 Champion will continue to run ORCA electrics in all his cars. Announcing the deal with Sanwa’s Akimasa Uchida, Hagberg said ‘with my KO contract up I took the opportunity to try all the different radios which included buying a Sanwa which I really liked and its great that we are now able to work together on an official deal’.  Statistics provided by Sanwa show that at the 1:12 Worlds their radio is the most popular choice with a 59% share of the field of which over half are the M12.  The second most popular radio with just shy of a quarter of racer using it is KO Propo with Futaba third with 16% usage.
