BRCA 1/8th Circuit Nationals Rd2 – Report

BRCA 1/8th Circuit Nationals Rd2 – Report

The second round of the BRCA Circuit Championship took place at the high speed circuit of Mendip R/C Raceway. Created in 1977 the circuit was made to challenge the 2WD drive cars of the day, and allow corners to by taken at high speed, this means with a modern 4WD chassis it is very much a power circuit, thus a great engine and big brass spheres are required to get around the circuit at full speed as the circuit is lined with concrete barriers, making this a track to be respected. Greeted by cold but dry weather, practice was under way on the Saturday. With Neal King setting the pace and the usual drivers of Tim Wood, Andy Hastings, John Carr and the returning David Spashett all looking fast it was going to be a close qualifying and race come Sunday.

Jiri Mara successful at Czech Open series Rd2

Jiri Mara successful at Czech Open series Rd2

Round two of the popular Czech Open series for 1/8th nitro buggies was held at the Horni Jeleni track over the weekend. The qualifying was a very tight affair with local star Max Götzl, Jiri Mara, Tomkas Kapicka and Kaja Novotny all being in the mix for the overall TQ. Eventually Jiri would come out fastest after the qualifiers from Max and Kaja in second and third respectively. After a couple of changes for the semifinal Kaja, who struggled a bit with overall grip, managed to take the pole position for the A-main that saw the top 4 drivers quickly pulling away from the field. Around the 15 minute mark Jiri and Kaja had opened a gap on the chasing pack with both swapping positions several times. Some 26 minutes into the race Kaja had to let Jiri go as the Xray driver encountered a small drivetrain problem with a stone in the clutch bell hindering his car’s performance. This meant Jiri Mara (Serpent) would be able to cruise to the win with Kaja taking the runner-up spot from Tomas Kapicka (Kyosho).
