Greece’s capitol Athens will see the annual ElectroChamps electric off-road meeting. For the third year in a row the FRT Off Road track will hold the country’s biggest electric off-road event, this time on the weekend of the 9th of June. The race will see modified 2WD and short course racing on Saturday and modified 4WD on Sunday. More details can be found on the dedicated event page by clicking here.
The Silverstone Radio Control Model Car Club were hosts to a fabulous six round winter series that has proved extremely popular with the racers, each event being over-subscribed despite being held on a rather untraditional Saturday. A different track layout was used each time and the designs were enjoyable to drive and testing for the drivers, laid out on very high bite astro-turf with some additional slippery surfaces thrown in along with a variety of jumps and ripples. 2WD was the most popular class with a multitude of national A finalists on show and it was CML/Associated/Centro driver Tom Yardy that showed the way – taking the championship with a perfect score using his Centro C4.1. The 4WD class was taken by Chris Bowater (Team Associated B44.2). There was also a full compliment of 2WD Short Course trucks racing at each meeting and it was a strong showing by the Team Associated SC10 FT with the truck taking all the pole positions and all the wins in the hands of Liam Galvin and Simon Chambers. With all the points tallied up Liam Galvin’s Reedy powered SC10FT took a convincing win to complete the Team Associated title white-wash.

The last round of the Portuguese electric off-road indoor race series took place at the RC Fun Zone track located in Pamela, just minutes outside of Lisbon. Around 40 drivers attended the race, with 26 drivers in Buggy 2WD, 22 in buggy 4WD, 7 in SC 2WD and 7 on SC 4WD. Saturday saw free practice and the first qualifiers which resumed on Sunday followed by the finals. Miguel Matias won the 4WD class followed by Ricardo Monteiro and Nuno Durães. The third place secured Team Durango driver Nuno the overall win of the championship followed by Ricardo Monteiro (Team Durango). A sixth place in the race handed Team Xray driver Nuno Rebelo a third place overall on his first outing with the XB4 buggy.

This past weekend saw one of the largest RC car races ever held in Canada, the Canadian On-Road Nationals, in Welland, Ontario. Over 280 entries raced on a temporary carpet track set-up in the Centre Court of the Seaway Mall, providing a very unique atmosphere. The format for the race saw three days with practice all day Friday, followed by three rounds of qualifying on Saturday, and one last round and the mains on Sunday. The practice went very well with it being open for the first 4 hours until it got busy and controlled practice was on. In Modified and Super Stock touring Team Associated’s Keven Hebert was in control of things as he was able to TQ all three rounds of Super Stock and the last two rounds in Modified. In Sundays final qualifier, Andrew Hardman and Keven both reset TQ in Super Stock, improving it by about 2 seconds on his previous time and keeping TQ by less than a second over Andrew. In Modified, it was another great battle with both drivers on TQ pace. Both ran a good race with only 1 bobble for each and ended up resetting TQ. Keven would still grab the pole by about 1 second over Andrew.

The Czech Republic will see a round of this year’s Xray Challenge meetings run in the city of Prague. The race will take place this weekend, the 16th of March, and will be run in 1/10th touring stock 17.5T, 9.5T and modified as well as 1/10 WGT and F1. The RHR Dirt track in Worksop, England will host the Pro-Line Challenge 2013 on the weekend of the 19th of May. Run in 2WD and 4WD buggy as well as short course the race will see round by round qualifying and bump up finals. The Canadian on-road nationals is Canada’s biggest on-road event held in the middle of Sea Way Mall in Welland Ontario. With well over 290 entries for touring car, VTA, 12th scale, and Mini, this is clearly the biggest event in Canada. US national champion and indoor champion Dave Johnson attended this event and ran the highly competitive 17.5 blinky touring car class as well as full blown open modified class. The VBC driver took TQ by 4 seconds over the other 89 entries in this class. In the main Dave got away to a good lead after 3 laps from current Canadian champion Philippe Gelinas who had got around Rob Say for 2nd place. Philippe would get within a second of Dave before the latter started to put together blistering laps to pull out to a 6 second lead over second place.

The Greek National Championship got underway last weekend and it was John Sotiropoulos that dominated the race at the FRT track with his Serpent 747. Saturday practice showed that Sotiropoulos had strong pace as he set the pace with his Max Powered Serpent. That speed carried through to qualifying on Sunday as he TQ’d the event ahead of Shepherd’s top two challengers. Starting the final from pole position Sotiropoulos had perfect start and showed great pace and once the race had settled the Serpent driver started to extend his lead eventually crossing the line some three laps clear of 2nd placed Capricorn driver Vangelis Totomis and another 3 laps clear of 3nd placed also Capricorn driver Nick Karabelas after 45-minutes of racing.
