Simon Ciudan wins Hungarian Nationals

The last round of the Hungarian Nationals took place recently in Pécs under extremely wet conditions. Because of the bad weather a lot a drivers refused to race, and only those who still had chance for the title decided to compete. After winning the last two rounds it was Shepherd racer Simon Ciudan who had the best chances to claim this years title. The final was started on a wet track and Ciudan took over the lead. As the conditions were really bad, he was the only driver to finish the race, winning with a huge gap over László Kiss-Orbán on second place and Kovács Tamás finishing third. Tim Wood & Kyle Branson make it 3 in a row

Tim Wood & Kyle Branson make it 3 in a row

The 9th round of the BRCA 1/8th scale on road Nationals took place at the Cotswold circuit, which is now becoming a regular season finale to the BRCA Championship. The circuit is located within the Kemble Airfield complex, on the outskirts of Cirencester and is very technical with elevation changes and corners which are taken in second gear. The requirement of mid range engine power is essential at a circuit with these characteristics since it will allow you to use the power to help steer the car from the rear. The championship title was also to be decided with Tim Wood having a slender 3 point lead over Pete Hastings with John Carr in a strong third position. The weather forecast was for a dry weekend which was a surprise since October normally brings rain. With plenty of action on the track during Saturday practice, the grip steadily increased throughout the day and from looking at the relative pace of cars, Mark Green and Kyle Branson again looked by far the quickest. The pace of the championship challengers was very close which would make for an interesting race day.

Henrik Christensen takes Danish 1/8th title

Henrik Christensen takes Danish 1/8th title

The last round of the Danish 1/8th scale nationals was run at GRRC club in Grewe. The track has a technical challenging layout and some rain on Friday & Saturday did not help drivers to get used to it. Unfortunately the weather forecast also effected the numbers of entries so only a few racers showed up. On Saturday afternoon championship leader Christensen showed that he aims for the 4th victory in the running season by taking the pole-position in front of fellow Shepherd-Novarossi racer Jon Pedersen with John Jessen in third position. The 30 minute long final was run on Sunday afternoon and the temperatures were really cold but it did stay dry throughout the final. From the start Henrik had some problems with the engine so after 4 min Jon Pedersen went in front of Henrik Christensen and John Jessen. Henrik’s chances of another victory was destroyed following a 10 minute long pit stop after being hit by a another driver. Jon Pedersen never looked back for the rest of the race and with this result, he had enough points to secure himself the overall 2nd place in the championship. Although he had some problems, Christensen had enough points to defend his championship lead, claiming the Danish National 1/8th Scale Championship title.

Naoto Matsukura takes 4th consecutive JMRCA 1/12th title

Naoto Matsukura takes 4th consecutive JMRCA 1/12th title

The JMRCA Japanese 1/12th scale Nationals took place last weekend at the Kawaba RC Plaza track in the centre of the country. Qualifying saw double World Champion and reigning national champion Naoto Matsukura take the pole position with a perfect score of 6 round wins with his Yokomo R12. The 2nd spot on the grid went to fellow Yokomo driver Akira Murai in 2nd and Hukuoka True in 3rd spot with the Kawada chassis. The finals were a little bit more exciting with Naoto taking the win in leg 1 ahead of Corally racer Hideo Kitizawa who had qualified in 6th. In leg 2 Hideo would take the win with a 2 second gap back to Naoto setting up a thrilling 3rd deciding leg. Both drivers really pushed, setting the fastest laps of all 3 A-mains by a clear margin with Hideo actually getting the fastest lap, but Naoto would take the win by 3 seconds to take the overall National title, his 4th in succession, in front of Hideo in 2nd, while Hukuoko True would claim 3rd.
