Bickerstaff claims Irish Touring Car Series Rd1

Bickerstaff claims Irish Touring Car Series Rd1

The opening round of the 2010 Irish Touring Car Series took place in Bangor, Northern Ireland, over the weekend where it was defending Champion Alan Bickerstaff who claimed the win. Attracting a healthy entry, the event saw Bickerstaff put his Novak powered Associated TC5 on pole after a determined TQ run in the final qualifier. The opening Leg of the A-Main saw the Team Associated British Championship team driver lead early on followed by the Tamiya’s of Mark Gilliland and Keith Dempsey but 2 minutes in Bickerstaff came undone as he tried to pass a back marker. This handed Gilliland the race lead but with a minute left on the clock he ‘binned it’ allowing Bickerstaff back through to take the win with Dempsey completing the Top 3. In the second leg Bickerstaff had a straight run through to victory as Gilliland and Dempsey fought over second. Having held second for the early part of the race Dempsey could not hold off Gilliland who eventually found a way passed but it was too late for him to mount a challenge for the win meaning the podium was a reflection of the Top 3 starting order. Having started from the back of the grid John Matthews enjoyed one of his best ever performances to finish fourth overall.

Harper wins first BRCA National for CRC

Harper Wins First BRCA National for CRC

Last weekend the cream of Britains 12th scale racers made the trip down to Devon for round 4 of this years BRCA nationals at Plymouth. The Plymouth club always host a top notch event and as a result the meeting is always well attended despite being a drive of over 4 hours away for many. On Saturday in the stock class Elliott Harper took TQ and went on to comfortable win the A final by more than half a lap. This was the first time that a CRC car had won a UK national. Second went to Chris Kerswell driving a V-Dezign. Chris initially gave chase and attempted to challenge Elliott, but soon realised that he lacked the pace required and settled for a strong second place finish. The battle for 3rd was an intense one with several drivers all holding the position at various points in the race. Mark Stiles eventually came through from 8th on the grid to complete the podium for V-Dezign.

Niko Cheng wins at Excellent Speedway

Last Saturday saw the first open race in Malaysia, held at Excellent Speedway in the north of country and saw over 70 drivers in attendance. In the 1/8th scale GTP class it was reigning national champion Niko Cheng driving for Shepherd who dominated the whole event. After 3 rounds of qualifying he claimed the TQ spot for the 35 min A final clocking the fastest laptimes of all drivers. At the start of the final he could pull away easily and was unchallenged for the whole race distance. He crossed the finishing line in first position with a gap of 7 laps on the second placed driver claiming the first victory of the 2010 racing season. With his brand-new Velox V10 Niko Cheng also participated in the 1/10 nitro touring class. After 3 rounds of qualifying he lined up in the starting grid on second position. At the start of the 40 min final he could take over the first position until the first pitstops. Unfortunately he dropped back due to some minor mistakes and finished on 8th position.

BRCA Micro Nationals Rd4 report

BRCA Micro Nationals Rd4 report

We received a report from the 4th round of the BRCA Micro Nationals that took place in Tamworth last weekend. The pits were buzzing with excitement all day with new chassis and electrical layouts a plenty! Previous Micro Champion SMD’s Craig Harris made his return to competitive micro racing with his prototype LRP Shark. Craig’s Shark ran a modified slipper clutch and a motor mounting layout similar to the Associated B44 to optimize the weight distribution and handling of the car but with only a few minutes of run time on the new chassis even Craig was unsure as to whether his fiddling would reap him any rewards.

Ernest Provetti Open letter to RC Industry

Ernest Provetti Open letter to RC Industry

Team Epic CEO Ernest Provetti sent us this open Letter to “our Team Drivers and the R/C Industry” and so for the sake of discussion we are going to publish it online. “It is come to my attention that R.O.A.R. is trying to do something which will be very good for the growth and health of our industry and something that has been needed for a long time. When I first started in the R/C industry in 1980 we (R/C industry) had separate classes for beginner drivers. They called it “Production” back in the day. No sponsorship at all. In most of the kit cars you could not even use ball bearings. The thought was “it gave entry level people a place to race who did not have unlimited funds” and allowed a bridge for new customers to transfer over and become long term enthusiasts. This has been sorely missed.”
