Báez & Tirado win Puerto Rico Nats Rd6

The eighth round of Puerto Rico National Championships were held in Barcelonta this past weekend. In the 1/10th scale class Mugen team driver Andy Báez, driving a MTX4R, was once again in top form taking the TQ spot and going on to win the 30 minute final. The battle was for the second position between Mugen team mate Javier Laureano and Kyosho driver Pedro Alvarado, but 4 minutes to the finish of the race and Laureano had a touch with another car, allowing Alvarado up into second position. In 1/8th scale Báez also took the TQ spot and was leading the whole race until the last 6 minutes when had some fuel issues while 2 laps in front. This dropped him down to 2nd and gifted Edgar Tirado the win driving a Serpent 966, with Carlos Fuentes driving a Kyosho took 3rd spot.

Fadtke takes victory at Polish Season Finale

Fadtke wraps up Polish Title with Rd5 win

The season finale of the Polish Nationals took place at the weekend in Warsaw and more than 50 drivers participated in the event, split into 4 classes. In the touring car spec class, despite Dennis Fadtke being assured of the title before the last race, there was a close battle between himself and Morris Indovino. Dennis won the first final leg ahead of Morris and Patrick Raczyński, while in the 2nd leg Dennis had some technical problem and Morris won from Patrick. The final and deciding leg was taken by Dennis with Morris 2nd and Patrick 3rd and that was also the overall result for the round. In the DTM junior class, Michael Orlowski took the win, while in the DTM class it was Filip Mutusik taking the win, and finally it was Andrzej Trella that took the Ladies and Gentleman class win. Once again President of the Polish RC federation Niko Triandafilidis put on another great race with a large raffle and lots of giveaways.

Rombouts is Dutch Champion following Rd6 win

The 6th and final round of the Dutch 1/10th scale Nationals took place at the weekend at the RACO track in Utrecht with early fog clearing to become a clear dry day. With the NK Championship still up for grabs it would a tough battle between front runners Pedro Rombouts and Maarten van Lierop with Maarten needing to win, while Pedro was in 3rd or lower, while Pedro just needed to finish close to Maarten. In qualifying it was another Xray driver Daan Jacobs that took the pole spot ahead of van Lierop, with Rombouts and Ricardo van Dam rounding out the top 4. Qualifying for the Nomac class went the way of Michael Behnert, while in the 1/8th Promo class it was Luigi Pili that took the top spot. The 30 minute NK final saw a race long battle between the championship contenders, as pole man Jacobs hit engine problems at the start and was swallowed by the pack. Following a rear tire stop from Maarten there was only a few seconds separating the top two with Rombouts coming home in first, with van Lierop 2nd and Bas Geurds 3rd. This result was enough for Rombouts to claim his first National title. The Nomac class was won by Davy Geraets with pole man Michael Behnert 2 laps back in 2nd, while Marc Meijer took 3rd. In the 1/8th Promo class Luigi Pili continued his domination of the class by winning ahead of Paul Conradi, with Alfred van Dijk taking 3rd.

Borja Hernandez takes Round 4 in Spain

The 4th and final round of the Spanish 1/8th scale buggy National Championship, has taken place yesterday at the Valladolid track. With the overall championship already won by Robert Batlle who won 3 from the first 3 rounds, everybody was wondering if he could make 4 from 4 in his last GRP Engine powered race. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to do it, as the final was really hotly disputed, and 4 drivers have made it to the 1st position during the race; Robert Battle who had some mechanical problems, Richi Gómez, Daniel Vega, and the winner, Borja Hernández. Carlos Pineda has completed a great weekend finishing on 2nd place, spite he has raced about half of the final race with the broken rear wing, Richi Gómez completed the podium.

Claudio Souto wins Rd5 in Portugal

The 5th round of the Portuguese 1/8th scale on road nationals took place last weekend in Maia to the North of the country, close to Porto. Qualifying went the way of Motonica driver Claudio Souto, in front of Mugen driver Mario Miranda, with Pedro Praça and Ricardo Costa rounding out the top 4. In the final there was no change to the qualifying order and Souto took the win from Miranda in 2nd with Pedro Praça taking 3rd with his Motonica.

Grainger & Bowden wins BRCA TC Season Finale

2009 saw the BRCA 1:10 electric section return to one of the longest established outdoor tracks in the UK, Mendip, this was the final round of the touring car national series and saw a victory for Chris Grainger. Chris had already secured this years title at the previous round and was under no pressure as he dominated the event with his Mi4. In qualifying Chris set pole position for the A final ahead of the Hot Bodies Cyclone of Ben Cosgrove and the Associated TC5 of Olly Jefferies. The three leg finals saw some great racing, Chris took victory in the first two legs while Ben took leg three, Olly Jefferies was second in all three legs and this left the finishing positions as Chris the winner ahead of Olly and Matt White who had a great weekend with his Schumacher Mi4. In the Pro Stock class championship leader Jon Bowden took FTD, Jon only needed a top three result to secure his title and did it in style with his Hot Bodies Cyclone, Jon won all three legs of the Pro Stock A final to be crowned 2009 Pro Stock champion, behind Jon on the day were Lee Price for Schumacher and a stunning drive from one of the UK’s young up and coming stars Zak Smith who finished third for Associated.

Abernethy & Baird win Rd4 of Irish Nats

The fourth and final round of the Irish National 1:8 Off Road Championships took place at the Navan Nitro Nuts track last Sunday.  With Losi driver Michael Todd having already secured the title with victory at the previous round in Galway from Barkley Abernethy and opting to sit out this encounter the big battle was was for third place in the championship between Derek McCloskey and Gary Baird. In qualifying it was 2008 Champion Mark Harron who took TQ honours with his Hot Bodies ahead of McCloskey’s Hong Nor and the Losi of David Curtis. In the Truggy category, the title was still up for grabs between defending champion Bradley Baird and Galway winner Christopher McCauley. Driving his Losi it was McCauley who got the upper hand in qualifying to take the TQ honours while Baird’s Xray would line up fourth.

Swauger & Lemieux take ROAR Fuel titles

We are a bit late on this one, but the ROAR on road Fuel Nationals took place 2 weeks ago in Toledo and combined both the 1/8th scale and 1/10th scale 200mm classes. In the 1/8th scale class it was Ralph Burch Jr that took the pole position ahead of Scott Kimbrow, Paolo Morganti and Paul Ciccarello, while in the 1/10th scale class it was Paul Lemieux that took the pole position in front of Ralph Burch, Bobby Flack and Josh Cyrul. In the 1/8th scale final Mike Swauger was able to come to the front and take the win for Mugen, finishing a lap clear of Serpent driver Paolo Morganti in 2nd, with Paul Ciccarello a further 2 laps back in 3rd. The 200mm final saw a lights to flag victory for Lemieux, bringing his Xray home over 3 laps clear of Josh Cyrul in 2nd with Ralph Burch taking the final podium spot in 3rd.
