Kobbevik doubles Norwegian Indoor Offroad Nats

The Norwegian EP Offroad Nationals were held this past weekend at the KayArena carpet track in Siggerud. The 2wd portion was run with four qualifiers and Daniel Kobbevik TQ’d all four with his Sunpadow/Hobbywing powered Schumacher LD2. Helge Johannesen and Eirik Andressen complete the top three on the grid. Daniel won A1 easily with Eirik Andreassen with his Yokomo second and Alexander Gjemble with his Schumacher third. In A2 Daniel had huge lead, but 1:45 before the finish, the right front wheel came off, and at same time earlier in the final Alexander and Eirik had a hard wheel to wheel battle and they came into each other, meaning they both missed the loop, so they lost one lap. That left them fighting for second and third. And with Daniel out of race as well, it was a total shake up with the ranking after A2. It ended with Vincent Rüger in front of Peter Strein and Helge Johannesen and so A3 was going to be exciting. A3 started, and Daniel went away right away leaving behind the fight for second and third was strong. It ended it was Eirik in front of Alexander, but with his win in A2, Rüger took the final overall podium spot.

The format for the day was a round of open practice, 4 rounds of FTD qualifying and 1 final for all the drivers. Of the three Championships taking place this season only the GT12 championship had been decided at the start of this weekend. In GT12, the current champion, Dan Robins would again line up for the final in pole position ahead of Mark Fitsimmons and Mark Jewitt. It wasn’t to be this time for Dan with Mark Jewitt executing a brilliant pass in the dying laps to take the win. Dan would finish second ahead of James Taylor who had qualified in fourth place.

After a single round of practice, the 4 rounds of qualifying took place and it was clear in both 2WD and 4WD that the pole sitter meant business by topping the score sheets in all qualifying. 4wd saw John Painter line up in pole position ahead of Steve Kelly and Paul Evans. In 2wd, Kyle Moon would be car 1, ahead of a very fast and chasing Ellis Stafford. Christopher Delves would manage 3rd on the grid, while team mates Luke Mills and Will Johnson would line up 4th and 5th.

Urbain wins EWS Finale

The final round of the 2021-2022 Essex Winter Series took place this weekend. Although the championship had been wrapped up in the Modified and Super Stock classes, it was far from decided in the Sportsman Stock and Front Wheel Drive categories as the 10th Anniversary Season came to a close. The Modified class saw two popular European racers join the field, Sweden’s Alexander Hagberg and France’s Lucas Urbain, but it was already-crowned champion Kyle Branson who set the pace in Q1 for Xray, narrowly ahead of Lucas’s Awesomatix. Q2 saw Lucas move to the top, with Alexander the quickest Xray in second, and Kyle dropping to third, before Q3 saw Alexander take his turn at the top ahead of Lucas and Kyle, the top three again being covered by less than 2 seconds. This set up a showdown for pole, with Lucas eventually coming out on top after taking the final round ahead of Kyle – but Alexander lined up second thanks to his better time from Q3.

Haheim & Johannessen win Norwegian Nationals

For the first time Bergen was the host of the Norwegian National Championships in the onroad category. They did a great job giving the racers a perfect event with a super nice layout on the very familiar ETS carpet. This was a 2-days event with 4 qualifiers on Saturday and a 5th qualifier on Sunday, followed by the triple A-mains. In TC Mod it was a pre-race favourite Nikko Haheim who managed to grab the TQ honours, followed by the youngsters Sindre Undheim in 2nd and Ola Lovbrekke in 3rd. The finals were pretty uneventful with Nikko grabbing the first two mains again followed by Sindre and Ola.

FSEARA Rd5 Tampa FL SS Raceway – Report

For round 5 of the FSEARA the series returned to asphalt, this time at the Tampa FL SS Raceway. This is a brand new track for this season and is one of the most famous RC tracks in Florida offroad having last year hosted the ROAR 1/8th E buggy nationals. But many didn’t know they also have an on road track as well. Sharing the same driver stand as the off road track, it’s best of both worlds to be able to have a ‘covered’ on road track. Due to the dust and dirt around the track, many found this track to be challenging. Having a very narrow driving line, staying in the groove was the key to this track. The surface turned out to be one of the most consistent matching with the series Control Xpress 40x V3 tires. Just with a few packs of break in, 1 set of tires would be enough as the tire will get faster and faster throughout the run. It was surely never seen before from any other asphalt track.
