2020 Kinwald Klassic – Cancelled

Hobby Action RC Raceway in Chandler Arizona got in touch to let us know the disappointing news that the 2020 BKlassic has had to be cancelled. You can read the announcement here:

Hello everyone, 2020 has been a crazy time in the world and the RC industry has had to make adjustments on the fly. As you all know the Covid-19 virus has caused us to make some difficult decisions this year and we are at that point again. As of September 17, 2020, the State of Arizona is classified in the “Moderate” zone for the potential community spread, under this level the Arizona Department of Health Services restricts gatherings on indoor assembly. With the current recommended limitation on public gatherings, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Kinwald Klassic scheduled for October 17-18, 2020. It is an honor to for Hobby Action RC Raceway to host this event and we will again honor Brian in 2021. Thank you to all those that support us and our hobby. LT

Frehner does double at Rd3 of Swiss EP Offroad Nats

Last weekend the EOCD club of Dielsdorf hosted Rd3 of the Swiss Nationals in 1/10th Offroad Buggy. The nicely prepared dirt-track demanded everything from the drivers in terms of setup. In the 2WD class it was Florian Schmid (Xray) that took the top spot ahead of Kay Frehner (Associated) in 2nd however in the mains the positions were reversed as Kay could get out in front and withstand the pressure of brothers Florian and Nico Schmid to take the overall win. In the 4wd class Kay Frehner (Associated) would secure pole position ahead of Florian Schmid (Xray) and could convert his TQ into a win by easily taking the first two mains. Fabian Widmer (Associated) would come through to win the final A-main to secure the runner up spot while Florian Schmid would have to settle for 3rd. In the Truck class, top qualifier Stefan Sidler (Associated) won the race to secure the Swiss title.

Thayer, Batta & Ashmore win big at Surf City Classic

Having covered the mod classes from the 13th Annual Surf City Classic that was held this past weekend at OCRC Raceway, the action was no less exciting in the Stock classes. In the 13.5 4wd Buggy class, it was Yokomo driver Matthew Gonzales that would get the TQ spot for the single 10-minute A-main ahead of Matthew Williby. As the tone went off, 5th place starter Jake Thayer got off to a great start and would find himself in 2nd place by the end of lap 2. He would then slowly begin catching the leader Gonzales during the next few minutes of the race by putting in fast and consistent laps. Right at the halfway point of the A-Main, the Yokomo/Muchmore driver made a great pass for the lead and would hold it to the end to take an impressive win. Matthew Gonzales would have to settle for 2nd with Matthew Williby completing the podium in 3rd.

Marco Baruffolo wins 2020 HotRace Cup

The HotRace Cup took place last weekend at the NitroBuggy Genzone track, home track of Marco Baruffolo. The track conditions were really difficult with high grip and lots of bumps making it really hard to drive fast and safe. In qualifying it was Xray driver Baruffolo that took the opening round, with multiple European Champion Elliott Boots driving his SWorkz taking the other 2 rounds to claim the top qualifier spot. In the final Marco could get by the British driver on the opening lap, Boots having problems on the 2nd lap as his front tires came unglued, the resulting pit-stop dropping him out of contention. Baruffolo would go on to win by more than a lap in front of another SWorkz driver, Leonardo Valente in 2nd, with TLR driver Alex Zanchettin completing the podium in 3rd.

Nikko Haheim takes Norwegian cup

The Norwegian Cup race was held this past weekend at the upgraded facility in Lørenskog. This was a 2 day event with 3 qualifiers on Saturday and 3 mains on Sunday, so there was plenty of time to wrench and just enjoy a nice weekend with fellow racers. In the mod touring class Olav Dahle ended up taking the TQ honours ahead of Nikko Haheim and Helge Johannessen in 3rd. In A1 Nikko put Olav under immense pressure from the very beginning and after a few laps he opened a gap Nikko was trough. From there he could bring the car to the line some 6 seconds ahead of Mathias Nedrebo who came in 2nd, followed by Oyvind Stusdal. In A2 Haheim made a better start and managed to out drag Olav down the main straight and take the lead. From there he could control the gap back to Helge who came in 2nd, the result enough to secure the overall race win, and with it the Norwegian Cup title. With Nikko sitting out A3 Helge would go on to win the last main securing 2nd for the race with Mathias Nedrebo able to claim 3rd overall.
