Rob Gillespie Jr. triples at April Fools Classic

Rob Gillespie Jr. triples at April Fools Classic

The 27th Annual Pro-Line April Fools Classic hosted by Murf’s Intermountain R/C Raceway in Salt Lake City, UT, attracted over 250 entries from all over the western United States. As one of the longest-running events in the country, the heritage of the April Fools Classic is undeniable, and with a new facility racers were excited for the next chapter. Taking the TQ in both Truck Modified and 2WD Modified local Rob Gillespie Jr. was poised for the finals as he also qualified 2nd in 4WD Modified. As the main events got underway Sunday morning, Gillespie Jr. was on point and ready to compete. Taking a victory in A1 and A2 of Truck Modified, Gillespie Jr. sewed up his first title with a good challenge from teammate Tanner Denney. In 2WD Modified and 4WD Modified, Gillespie Jr. got the wins in A1 and looked to seal up the titles in A2. However it wasn’t to be and the titles had to be settled in A3. With a calm and determined mindset, the young Utah native completed the three-class sweep by winning both of the remaining main events in front of a very supportive hometown crowd.

Dutch Electric On-road Championship Rd1 – Report

Dutch Electric On-road Championship Rd1 – Report

Last weekend the first round of the Dutch Electric On-road Championship was hosted by the RC Hotwheels club in Deventer on a small and technical track made especially for electric cars. The weather forecast did not look very good for the weekend and on Saturday the track was wet the whole day but that did not stop some of the drivers to test different bits and pieces. In 2015 the championship sees the running of Touring Car Modified and 13.5T Blinky Stock classes along a supporting Formula category that will be run if at least five drivers sign up. Back to the race, on Sunday morning the track was still wet due to overnight rain and some of the drivers helped to get most of the puddles out of the way to allow the qualifiers to get underway. Round one and two were still very wet but round 3 offered decent conditions although it was still declared a wet race.

At the end of the weekend veteran racer Hupo Hönigl made the best out of the track conditions to take the wins in both the 2WD and 4WD classes.
