Robin D'Hondt claims European 1/8th on-road title

The 2016 EFRA 1/8th Nitro On-road European Championship was held in in Eskilstuna, Sweden. The event was highly affected by the unsteady European weather this Summer but the 45 minute main event would be held in good racing conditions. The pole position holder, Shepherd’s Simon Kurzbuch, showed an impressive pace over the week and in the main final he looked to be in control of things with Robin D’Hondt appearing to be the only driver able to keep up with Simon’s speed. But disaster struck for Simon as technical issues put a halt to his title chase, allowing Robin to take over the lead and never looking back. Behind the Belgian driver a 3-car train was in a fight for the runner-up spot, formed by ARC driver Toni Gruber, Daniele Ielasi (WRC) and Simon Kurzbuch. At the end Robin would bring home the win a lap ahead of the battling Toni Gruber and Daniele Ielasi who completed the podium separated by only about two tenth of a second.
