Bayer tops 2WD practice at Hudy Arena

Martin Bayer is the top seed for 2WD qualifying at the Euro Offroad Series third round taking place at the Hudy Arena in Slovakia.  The Xray driver set the fastest 3-consecutive laps around a difficult track to outpace Round 2 winner Naoto Matsukura who in turn was quicker than Round 1 winner Hupo Honigl.  Breaking his buggy in each of the two timed practice runs, defending champion Joern Neumann posted the 5th fastest time.

On the Grapevine – Phoenix & Gran Canaria

Grapevine

Four years ago Red RC made its first trip to the US to report on one of many big annual Offroad races that keep the teams busy each season and I suppose the Pro drivers in a job. That event has since become my favourite annual event but having just covered the 15th edition of the race I don’t actually know why. It’s certainly not because of the well planned timetable, while in Europe a timetable is an expected standard, in the US I have found to be as rare as hens teeth. As a keeper of hens I can assure that pretty much means they don’t exist!!! Its not because of the short days, that’s if you can call a guesstimated 08:00 start time, racing actually kicked off at 09:30 after a few extra late entries were crammed in, and finishing at 01:30 the next morning a short day. It’s not because of the feeling of being outdoors in the sunshine & fresh air, eating dust all day is an acquired taste as is the kick off the nitro fumes that burn your nose and make your eyes water once darkness falls. Returning from a late coffee run on one of the finals days, driving towards the track one could be forgiven for thinking the hovering 2-stroke smoke, lit up by the track floodlights, was the cloud off some sort of nuclear explosion. Despite this The Dirt Nitro Challenge is my favourite annual event to report on and if your an offroad racer I think it’s one of the events you have to do before you die. It’s the Dakar rally of the rc world – a challenge both to man and machine!

Anticipation high for first EOS visit to Hudy Arena

There is an air of high anticipation ahead of the third round of the Euro Offroad Series as the 1:10 electric offroad championship travels for the first time to the Hudy Arena in Slovakia this weekend (7-9 March). Widely reputed as the greatest r/c venue in the world by anyone who has had the opportunity to visit the 25,000 square metre facility which is also home to the Xray factory, over 260 drivers will get the opportunity to be part of what is only the second major international event to be hosted at the Hudy Arena, the first being last season’s Euro Touring Series finale.

Too Big?

Too Big?

I had an interesting conversation a few weeks ago at one of my races, which started out with a very simple question – “Are there too many ‘big races’ today?” That started a fairly long debate but, none the less, raised some things I’d never considered before.

Cody King Seminar and Race – Announcement

Cody King Seminar and Race – Announcement

This coming July, Cody and Paul King will visit the East Coast of the United States for an RC seminar and race. This event will be held at RC Madness hobby shop and raceway in Connecticut. Included in the event will be chassis set-up, engine tuning, driving tips, and racing Sunday afternoon. Entrants will be able to chose the Byron Fuel blend of their choice after listening to tips about fuel, oil, and nitro, and how it affects tuning. Also included is a BBQ lunch as well as many more prizes. More information is available on the flyer, or call RC Madness for more details. Cody had this to say about the event:

Kyosho and Regan LeBlanc did these types of events years ago, and when RC Madness asked us to do this, I jumped at the opportunity. We were going to do it last year, but it got too close to winter time and we had to wait. Now it’s finally here! I’m really pumped about the support from my sponsors, and it’s shaping up into a really fun weekend full of prizes, information, and racing. I really enjoy getting out there and talking to people and helping them. This is what is really fun about RC, just out talking to people having a good time and racing. We hope to see you at RC Madness in July.
