Eventful A1 allows Wang to take easy win

Following the final two qualifiers in the morning, the finals at RCI V2 in Shanghai finally got underway. In the opening modified class A-main TQ driver JJ Wang pulled away right from the start and was able to quickly build up a large lead while the rest of the field had a rough start following an early coming together. In the end the Xray factory driver cruised to the win ahead of Serpent team driver Felix Law, who following a tough battle emerged in 2nd place while under huge pressure from Nicholas Lee, managing to hold off the Singaporean driver by 0.5 seconds at the end. Just behind the ‘unlucky’ Yokomo driver, Rocket Zhang finished the final just 0.38 seconds back and took 4th position, the gap from 2nd to 4th being covered by less than a second at the end of the 5 minute run. Young Xray driver Lao Min Hao held 2nd position early in the race but fell back to end the race behind Motor King in 6th.

Q2 in Shanghai again goes to JJ Wang

Xray Factory driver JJ Wang continued to stamp his authority on the event as he took another round of qualifying in the modified class at the 3rd round of the 2017 CETC presented by Infinity at RCI V2 in Shanghai. A very consistent round for the Chinese American driver this run however was slower than Q1 due to the mostly unexpected drop in traction. Yokomo factory driver Nicholas Lee once again had to settle for second place, however the gap to Wang in 1st this time was down to just 1.9 seconds as the Singaporean continued to improve. Xray youngster Lao Ming Hao and Awesomatix driver Rocket Zhang maintained their position from the opening round with the former National Champion just 0.2 seconds behind the CETC Rd1 Rising Star winner in 3rd. For this round Yokomo driver Motor King managed to regain some of his lost practice pace to take 5th place ahead of 2016 Reedy Race Open Modified class Champion Julian Wong. JJ’s mechanic, Xray driver Hara Tune ended the round 7th, with another 3 Xray drivers completing the Top 10, with Canadian driver Mihnea Lupu, Jerry Dai and Nicholas Koh respectively.

JConcepts 190mm touring car body shell – First images

Spotted on the car of Serpent’s Felix Law at the latest round of the CETC at RCI V2 in Shanghai is a 190mm touring car body shell from JConcepts. Still in development it is exciting to see that the off-road specialist is entering the on-road market with a somewhat unique looking shell that features a very characteristic front section that is significantly longer compared to current bodies. The idea behind the design is to do away with the need for extremely forward mounted bodies, which is done to gain further steering emphasis, keeping the overall appearance intact and the wheel houses where they belong. Nevertheless Felix’ prototype body still is being mounted a tad forward here in Shanghai as you can see from our images. Other design elements include a very pronounced grill section, ribbing in front of the windscreen for improved stability as well as an anti-tuck rear bumper section. We are not allowed to do close up photos but we bring you more information on the project’s development as soon as they surface.
