2014/15 Rockstar Winter Off-Road Series – Report

The 2014/15 Rockstar Winter Off-Road Series was hosted by Premier R/C Raceway in Portland, Oregon. This six race series started in November and just recently came to an end. Each driver’s four best rounds out of the six would be used to determine the Champion in each class. The three month series averaged an impressive 60+ entries. With the ease of a carpet track and pre-made jumps, new track layouts were done the day of each series race in only 30-minutes to level the playing field for all drivers. When the dust had settled, Kyosho was left standing on top by taking four Modified class Championships.

Ben Panic wins Lap Paradise 1/8th Offroad League Rd2

Round 2 of the Lap Paradise 1/8th Offroad League in Johor Bahru, Malaysia was held on a newly installed layout over the weekend. A new back section imitated the famed C-Netic track in Indonesia and it challenged the field as it was a lot tighter than the Indonesian version. With a good watering overnight by the track crew the first half of the day was run on a grooved track. Four rounds of qualifying split the drivers in to Christmas tree finals. By the time the finals came around the track had dried out, the groove was still there but the line was very tight and it was loose and dusty everywhere else with ruts forming.

JConcepts Indoor National Series Rd1 – A3 results

The 2WD Modified Winter Indoor National Champion of the premier class came down to the final race between AE/JConcepts’ Michael Schoettler and AE/JConcepts’ Nick Gibson. With Gibson having a win and a 3rd and Schoettler with a win and a 2nd, A3 would decide who would be crowned the new champion. Once again, Nick Gibson would attack right from the start and put the pressure on the rest of the field as he would try and repeat his perfect run in A2. Gibson’s fast pace was hard to match lap for lap as TLR’s JP Richards would push hard to keep the Kansas City native within striking distance. On the 7th lap, Richards was unable to maintain Gibson’s pace and a mistake would allow Schoettler and Kyosho/JConcepts Mitchel Gardner through to see if they could chase down the leader.

Having made an early mistake in A1 which resulted in an unfavorable 3rd place finish for the 2WD Modified TQ, AE/JConcepts’ Nick Gibson vowed he wouldn’t make the same mistake twice. This time, the story was much different as Gibson was able to slowly stretch out his lead from the rest of the pack. In a league of his own and having the fastest car on the track, Gibson was able pull away and cruise to an uncontested win in A2 leaving the rest to battle for 2nd and 3rd.
