Leino TQs opening qualifier in Sand

Teemu Leino took a surprise TQ in the opening round of qualifying at the 1:8 Offroad European Championship in Germany this morning, the factory HB driver setting the pace in the first of the five 5-minute qualifiers ahead of the championship’s last three champions Robert Batlle, David Ronnefalk and Darren Bloomfield.  Overnight rain made for a slightly damp Sand am Main track as qualifying got underway with the conditions leaving those in the first two heats, among them Top Seed Ronnefalk and Battle, at a disadvantage.  Running in Group 5 and with a more grooved up track Leino was able to go to the top of the timesheets .236 up on Batlle’s Mugen.

Serpent 1/8 truggy spiral gear option

Serpent introduce a spiral differential gear and pinion option for the company’s 1/8th truggy kits. Coming as separate items both the 43T diff gear and the 10T pinion have a slight spiral cut for super true and smooth operation. The gears are made from hardened steel and while the newly released Cobra-E Truggy features them right out of the box gears are an upgrade for the Cobra nitro truggy and also the Cobra buggy series in case a shorter internal gear ratio is needed.

Vaterra introduce the Chevrolet K-5 Ascender 1/10th scale 4WD off-road kit. Resembling one of the most popular 4×4 vehicles of all times, the innovative platform features stamped-steel ladder frames with adjustable wheelbase, a metal gear transmission and a very capable off-road suspension with a 3-link panhard bar front and 4-link rear setup with aluminium links and oil-filled, threaded shock absorbers. The transmission is engineered to handle even high-output power systems and brutal track conditions. A 2-speed transmission is available optionally. The battery tray floats over the front axle and is designed to accept 96mm shorty packs. Placing the weight of the battery over the front axle gives the front tyres extra traction when crawling over rocks and tackling steep inclines. A licensed 1986 K-5 Blazer body and licensed reproductions of Interco Super Swamper tyres are also included.

Belgian SCT Cup Rd5 – Report

The 5th round of the Belgian SCT Cup was organised by the the Buggy Racing Tournai Club and run during an RC show in Enghien. A purpose-built grass track was laid out in the middle of a park, in front of a castle. The nice surroundings and a track layout appreciated by the racers made the show for more than 4000 visitors with the club being rewarded by the highest attendance ever in the cup’s Pro2 class.

Ronnefalk top seed for qualifying at Euros

Reigning 1:8 Offroad European Champion David Ronnefalk got his title defence off to the perfect start as he topped today’s second timed practice in style to become top seed for qualifying which gets underway tomorrow at the German event.  The Kyosho driver was a full 6-seconds faster than the pace set by Mugen’s Robert Batlle in the day’s opening practice with Xray’s Renaud Savoya closest to the Swede the second time round 4.848 seconds adrift.  Savoya’s run sees him end the seeding 3rd behind Batlle. Despite having missed yesterday’s four rounds of practice Team Durango’s Joern Neumann would put in an impressive second run to post the 3rd quickest time for the round to claim 5th in the seeding.

Made for the Hot Bodies D413 1/10th 4WD buggy is this suspension arm cover set. It includes four inserts for the front and the rear lower A-arms to replace the standard composite parts with items of higher rigidity. Running less flexible arms can be beneficial in high ambient temperatures and on very high bite surfaces as stiffer arms result in improved steering precision and slightly reduced overall traction.

Batlle tops first seeding practice

Robert Batlle set the pace in the opening round of seeding practice at the 1:8 Offroad European Championships in Germany, the Mugen driver fastest over 5-minutes from the Kyosho of defending Champion David Ronnefalk. Winning his second European title the last time the championships visited the Sand am Main track, the Spaniard would outpace his Swedish rival by 2.644 seconds with Team Xray’s Martin Bayer completing the Top 3 a further 1.704 off.
