Lahti Touring Car Challenge 2013 - Report

The Lahti Touring Car Challenge was held in Lahti, Finland in the town’s Fair Centre as part of the Kätevä-Tekevä-Lukeva crafts, hobbies and reading expo that saw around 8,500 visitors throughout the weekend. The race was run in three classes, with the main one being the 28 driver invitational 10.5T blinky ProStock class, run in a spectator friendly format with racing consisting of final type starts with mixed heat and starting order. Seven rounds were held with four seven car heats per rounds of which six rounds counting for the final order. Saturday also saw a supporting blinky 17.5T stock class and on Sunday a FWD class was run, both in a more familiar two qualifying rounds and two final rounds format. The invitational ProStock class gathered a variety of top Finnish national FinTrack-Tour series drivers from the several classes to race each other in a more laid-back fun event. The invitational class also had some interesting names in the mix, especially Christer Andersson who made a one-off comeback with a borrowed Yokomo BD7 after a two year hiatus from the sport. Also one of Europe’s fastest 1/12th scale racers, Vesa Yli made a touring car comeback with the new Serpent car.

The 2nd round of the RCProf Speedpassion Challenge was held in Budapest on an indoor carpet track. Beside several other classes including electric buggy also a touring car modified and 13.5T race was held. Qualifying for the touring cars proved to be difficult due to the track conditions as the buggy tyres made for tricky grip conditions. In the Stock class János Birinyi, coming from second on the grid, was able to take the lead in A1 and A2 bringing home an early win for Xray. Viktor Kiss and Tamás Ponghó completed the podium for a 1-2-3 for the Slovakian manufacturer.

Rasmus B. Nielsen takes Danish 200mm title

Rasmus B. Nielsen takes Danish 200mm title

This year’s Danish National nitro on-road 200mm championship saw five rounds on four different tracks in Naestved, Odense, Greve and Hillerod. Rasmus Brunsborg Nielsen (Xray) and Claus Ryeskov (Xray) soon made their intentions clear as both fought for every point in the championship. Usually Rasmus was faster on a single lap while Claus is known for his consistent lap times and patience when lapping slower cars. Even though Claus, who took the last four titles, had won a couple of meetings in 2013 it was not enough to defeat Rasmus who is only in his second year in the hobby. Rasmus, runner-up at the Junior EC 2013, took the overall title in style leaving Claus in second place. Martin N.O. Hansen, who also had chances to win the championship at some point, ended in third place. He had been very unfortunate in the start of the year but he had the speed and skills to compete with the front runners and to defend himself against Rhys Jenkins who came in fourth.

Associated RC10 TC6.2 Factory Team kit

Associated RC10TC6.2 Factory Team kit

Seen at the recent ETS Rd1 the RC10 TC6.2 Factory Team kit builds on the very successful ROAR and BRCA national championship-winning TC6 platform and adds many performance-enhancing upgrades which take the chassis to the next level of performance. New for the TC6.2 is the updated bulkhead, top plate and chassis configuration that allow flex to be optimized by disconnecting the drivetrain bulkheads and suspension mounting systems. This new arrangement allows a predictable flex through the entire length of chassis, giving maximum grip on any track surface. At only 88mm wide and 2.25mm thick, the new TC6.2 carbon fiber chassis remains very narrow, resulting in reduced drag during the hardest cornering.
