Round three of the 2016 BRCA LMP nationals took place last weekend at the the Tamworth track just north of Birmingham. Drivers would compete over two days, with Saturday seeing all drivers racing in the 13.5 fixed timing class and Sunday seeing classes split into 6.5 Modified and 13.5 Sports Modified, both fixed timing. As always the central location saw a strong field of drivers, which was headed by 3-time 1/12th European Champion Alexander Hagberg. The second round of the British LMP-12 national series took place at the permanent MB Models facility in Leeds. The meeting was held over two days, with Saturday being 13.5 fixed timing for all drivers, and Sunday being split between 6.5 fixed timing modified and 13.5 fixed timing Sports Modified. The quality of the field was credibly high, with past World Champions David Spashett and Alexander Hagberg heading the entry list. …qualifying to line up a lap and half clear of the rest. Over in the 13.5 class Marcus Askell (Xray) would have a close battle with Mick Farrell (CRC) through qualifying to eventually line up second. In the final Olly would ease away and take the victory from Mark Stiles (Yokomo) and Chris Kerswell (Roche). The 13.5 final would see Marcus put pressure on Mick before performing a great pass for the lead. The BRAC 2015/16 1/12th National series went to MB Models in Leeds for the final meeting of the season to run in a newly built permanent race venue run by Michael Ball. In Sunday’s Open Modified qualifying Alexander Hagberg would take FTD from Olly Jefferies by just under 0.8 of a second, while Chris Kerswell takes third. Adam Catchpole, Mark Stiles, David Spashett, Andy Murray and Marcus Askell line up behind. …0.15 seconds between 2nd and 3rd. In the A-final and after a very clean start from the field, Spashett makes a clean break. Stiles starts to push Kerswell. Andy Murray had problems and dropped to 10th. 2nd, 3rd and 4th, were aöö together on track when Stiles attempted a move off the back straight but just doesn’t had the gap close enough yet on Kerswell. …unfortunately a collision resulted in David being forced to retire with a stripped spur gear. This promoted Stiles up to 2nd and in a repeat of Saturday’s final they pulled away from the chasing pack. Stiles was just managing to keep up with Olly until a small error cost him a couple of seconds and gave Olly some breathing room. After this he relaxed into a groove and cruised to victory.
