JConcepts 1/10 Hybirds, Inserts & Striker board

New from JConcepts, the Hybirds for 1/10th features a mid-lug design with unique inner Crowbar center lug DNA. The Hybrid is built for speed on medium to high traction conditions and the ultimate high-speed control, handling, durability and corner speed. Supported lug control and X-braced sidewall lug detail is designed to go the distance in long qualifiers, final main events and beyond. Available in Soft (Blue) and Super Soft (Green) compounds. There are also new medium profiled 1/10th buggy rear inserts which are a more durable insert in a softer density. Having an insert with proper density for track conditions pays dividends to the racer and especially toward the end of races. Finally there is the 1/10th, 1/8th and SCT Striker setup board w/ foam pad. Having a portable, convenient and flat working surface allows a driver to make necessary pit adjustments with speed, consistency and accuracy. The bottom can be outfitted with the included foam pad which adds depth, work space and a flexible footing for irregular surfaces.

2012 Chi-Town Shootout report

The 2012 Chi-Town Shootout was held this past weekend at Leisure Hours Raceway. Top drivers were in attendance from all over the country making for some great racing and a combined 340 entries made this event a record breaking year. In the 2wd Modified Buggy class, Chad Due started 5th but it wasn’t long before he was well in contention. At the start of the A-main event, Castellano and Hartson got into each other right away letting Root and Horne battle it out for a couple laps in the lead position. Root made a pass and led for several laps until he made a small mistake. Horne and Due were on the move and after Root’s mistake they were now battling for the lead. Due had a small bobble which put him back about a straight-away from Horne. Mid-way through the race the battle for the lead really started to heat up. Due charged up on Horne and applied some pressure and the leader made a small mistake. Due took the lead where he relied on his experience and technique to finish the race off in style. Chad Due crossed the line just before the 6 minute mark to finish on his own with a victory lap.

Serpent Cobra-B Team edition

Serpent have released a Team Edition version of their S811 Cobra buggy. The new kit include the pro-version 5.5mm machined aluminium shock towers in 7075-T6 alumnium front and rear and hard coated shock-caps front and rear. The use of larger, stronger bearings on all 4 corners of the car makes the Cobra even more reliable combined with new spring-steel wheel-axles. The new V3 diff-coupler and pinion system with 2 larger bearings also improves reliability a lot. The lower rear wing, as already in use on the E-Cobra is now also fitted to the GP Buggy. Finally the machined lowered pockets of the chassis plate have been revised to reduce flex, creating a stiffer / stronger chassis.

Ryan Cavalieri wins 3rd Annual PRCR Invitational

The 3rd Annual PRCR Invitational was held last weekend at Portland R/C Raceway in Clackamas, Oregon. This is the home track of Team Orion USA Team Manager Joe Pillars and is owned by his father in-law Jim Dunlap. At this years event, current 2wd & 4wd IFMAR World Champion Ryan Cavalieri was in attendance along with the fastest drivers in the North-West. For the Invitational Class, all drivers would use their 2wd Modified Buggies for all 8 rounds. 4 rounds of heads up racing were ran on Saturday followed by another 4 rounds on Sunday. Each driver was given 2 throw-outs, using their best 6 points. Tie-breakers were determined by the number of 1st place finishes, 2nd place finishes, and so on using the 6 counted points. If still a tie, then the drivers 2 best combined laps and times were added together. Throw-outs were just that, and were not used. This is the same system that is used at the International Reedy Buggy Race of Champions.

TLR have announced the signing of JR Mitch to the TLR team, Spektrum, Orion and Horizon Hobby. With JR’s lively attitude on and off the track and long history of racing experience makes JR a perfect fit at TLR. JR will be a key driver in the Florida area along with the east coast racing scene. JR will attend both electric and nitro races for TLR throughout the year with his first big event being the upcoming Neo Race in England.  JR will also attend the 1/8th Off-Road World Championship in Argentina later this year. JR Mitch had this to say:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank AE/Reedy for more than ten years of support and guidance in racing. There are a few people who stand out to me for making a significant impact during my time with this company. I would like to give special recognition to: Cliff Lett, Brent Thielke, Richard Saxton, and Rick Hohwart. At this point in time, I am not leaving AE/Reedy with any hard feelings. I just feel that it is time for a change and look forward to the opportunities that await for me racing with TLR. Once again, thank you for the many years I have spent racing with you.

JConcepts MP9 & RC8.2 Finnisher bodies

Expanding their body range, JConcepts have introduced the MP9 and RC8.2 Finnisher shells. Increased windshield angle provides a steady force upfront during mid-flight wind gusts on large jumps while the forward cab placement changes performance / visible bias which helps steering rotation in low traction corners. The side-pods have a strong and chiseled look, including a recessed area in the rear which allows another option for air-escape. The chassis side-guard to body fit has been tightened up which helps eliminate large empty voids that contribute to mid-flight directional changes. The area behind the cab has been greatly lowered exposing more of the engine heat-sink allowing more heat-escape while the V-stepped feature which is a highlighted styling cue of the Finnisher buggy bodies has been incorporated toward the rear and allows an additional area that can be trimmed to allow air-flow through the body.
