German Nationals 4WD Warm-up report

German Nationals 4WD Warm-up report

Last weekend the warm-up race for the German 4WD electric off-road nationals took place on a 1/8 nitro buggy track near Berlin. A total of 25 drivers made it to the challenging track of the RoadRunner-Berlin club . This was quite a low outcome for this otherwise highly competitive class but it seems like it was a result of the bank holiday weekend. With 17 drivers in total the 4WD Modified class contained the most action and was won by Team Durango driver Andre Welker who switched to the DEX410 only days before the race. Second place went to very young Tim Walther (Team Durango DEX410) with Chris Kamman (Team Associated B44) in 3rd. The B-final was won by Hamburg-based Markus Bauer (Team Durango DEX410). The 4WD Stock class went to Eberhard ‘Ebi’ Beck with Alexander Matschuck and Dietmar Spieß (all Team Durango DEX410) in second and third place respectively.

Xray XB808 composite 8 & 10-hole shock pistons

Xray XB808 composite 8 & 10-hole shock pistons

Xray have released a set of composite molded 8 and 10-hole shock pistons for two shock absorbers. 8-hole pistons are available with 2 different-sized holes (1.2 and 1.3mm) for changing damping (2 per piston). 10-hole pistons are available with 1.1mm holes and these pistons are conical for smoother damping. Big-bore pistons are manufactured from well-proven specially-formulated composite material to provide smoother action and durability. The well-proven molding production process is used to ensure perfect roundness of the pistons after production, so that the pistons will move perfectly inside the shock bodies for identical shock action in all four shocks.

JP Tirronen wins 1/8th truck at FSS Rd7

JP Tirronen wins 1/8th truck at FSS Rd7

Bart Collins and the Broward County R/C Speedway crew put together a fabulous venue for race #7 of the Florida State Series in Ft. Lauderdale. The track provided a great flow with plenty of elevation change, challenging jumps, off-camber turns, and a tremendous groove. JConcepts got off to a great start in the first round of buggy qualifying with 15yr old JP Tirronen laying down some of the fastest laps and finishing 2nd for the round, only 2 seconds behind world champion Bill Easton. JP continued his fast pace in the highly contested truggy class by taking the TQ for round 1. Second and third rounds of buggy had a pleasant surprise with on-road ace Chris Tosolini qualifying 2nd in both rounds running JConcepts tires for the first time all weekend. JP would wind up qualifying 3rd overall with Jared Scott 4th who was also on JConcepts tires. The truggy class was smooth sailing for JP as he TQ’d the overall with a perfect score. JConcepts team driver Brett Kingsbury put on a late charge in the 2nd and 3rd round to take the 2nd overall qualifying position. Main event time saw some crazy weather and had everyone scrambling. The weather was changing by the minute and everyone found themselves racing in and out of the rain showers. At the end of the 30min buggy final Billy Easton finished 1st, Chris Tosolini 2nd, and JP Tirronen rounding out the top 3. The Truggy final saw much better weather and the first place battle really heated up. 2nd qualifier Brett Kingsbury quickly took over the lead from JP and for the next 15 minutes they exchanged positions every few laps. After the dust settled, JP made his way to the top of the podium followed closely by teammate Brett.

Kyosho Lazer ZX-5 FS2 buggy

Kyosho Lazer ZX-5 FS2 buggy

With its heritage built at the top of the racing world, the Kyosho Lazer ZX-5 chassis has undergone a complete regeneration. This model is based on the FS conversion kit and not the SP competition kit held in high regard by many competition drivers. The new layout features a 10mm longer wheelbase and the motor and spur gear are positioned as far forward as possible. This combines with the 3 by 3 battery layout to produce optimal weight distribution and results in ideal surface pressure from the tires for effective traction and sure-footed turning. The new Lazer ZX5 FS2 is the latest in the Lazer line of vehicles, which is a further development on this platform and should be available in June.
