Danish 1/8th Off-Road Nationals Rd1 – Report

Danish 1/8th Off-Road Nationals Rd1 – Report

The first round of the Danish 1/8th Off-Road nationals attracted a total of around 90 drivers from Denmark, Germany, Sweden and Norway to compete in Nitro Buggy, Nitro Truggy and Electric Buggy classes. The track layout was very challenging and fun to race with a combination of a very big jump and difficult landing section on the straight, an “American wupti section” and some tight and flowing corners and sweepers. In Nitro Buggy it was the Xray duo of Mike Gosvig and Peter Harder who were fighting hard throughout all qualification rounds. Mike won the first round with 0.2 seconds on Peter and the second round with a 2 second margin. In round three Peter was leading until the last lap when a crash on the big jump handed Mike the win and a well-deserved TQ. In the last qualifier Peter turned the fastest lap of the day and scored the fastest qualification run to have him start from pole in the semifinal B. Mike and Peter then went on to win their respective semifinals to have them line up up front for the main final.

Derek Stephansen takes NCRL Race Series Rd1

Derek Stephansen takes NCRL Race Series Rd1

Round 1 of the Northern California Racing League was held at LSR Speedway in Sacramento with over 150 entries and racers from all around Northern California and Nevada attending. 2WD Modified Buggy was up first – a Reedy Race format meant you had to be fast and consistent to win. A1 would have Derek Stephansen lined up outside teammate Justin Moon. The two would get a clean start and begin gapping the field. Moon would bobble on the center triple giving Stephansen room to breath and take the win. A2 would have Derek lined up in P9 and get wrapped up in a crash early on. Half a lap down to the leader he would put his head down and run them down but run out of time taking 2nd. A3 starting mid pack Derek would set back and watch Strange and Cortez battle out each other for the lead which allowed Derek to pick them both off taking the win. Going into A4 three drivers could be the possible overall winner: Cavalier, Bernal, and Stephansen. Once again starting mid pack Stephansen would get a great start working up to 2nd quickly. The leader would make a mistake giving Derek the lead and would not relinquish it to take the overall class win and set the fastest time of the day in 2WD Mod buggy.

Stoltz sweeps Buggy classes at Turnpike Tussle Series

Stoltz sweeps Buggy classes at Turnpike Tussle Series

Kickin’ Dirt Raceway in Somerset, PA was the location for the Turnpike Tussle series, held on three weekends throughout February and March. The series brought in drivers from all parts of the region along with an interesting concept for R/C racing: single day races with extremely limited practice time and a fresh track layout for each event with no “drop races”. Consistent top performances would be the key to success in the series that drew over 105 entries on average per event. Matt Stoltz was able to take the points championships in both Modified 2WD Buggy and in Modified 4WD buggy. With podium finishes in all three rounds including a TQ and win in round 3, Matt was able to secure the championship in the Modified 2WD class and in Modified 4WD, Matt was able to take 2 out of 3 wins.

Insane Carpet Fighter 1/10th SC tyres & foam inserts

Insane-RC Carpet Fighter 1/10th SC tyres & foam inserts

Russian company Insane-RC introduce the new Carpet Fighter 1/10th scale short course truck tyres and a line of foam inserts. Starting with the tyre, it is developed for high-grip indoor carpet racing and it sports specially designed inner ribs for improved carcass stiffness which makes for much better stability especially in high-speed corners as the ribs minimise the gab between the tyre and the wheel. The tyres are made in Russia from 100 percent natural rubber which is meant to stay consistent even in freezing weather conditions which can be important when racing on outdoor carpet or astroturf tracks. Also new are foam inserts for all Carpet Fighter tyres. Available in three different hardness of standard, hard and super hard the cut inserts are ideal for carpet racing.
